Jul 1, 2026 Job Description Leicester High School, having students in both comprehensive and career technical education pathways, is seeking a dedicated and collaborative Special Education Team Chairperson to provide exceptional support for our students. The successful candidate will facilitate IEP meetings, ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, and serve as a bridge between families, faculty, and administration. We are looking for a candidate with strong leadership skills who can work collaboratively with teaching staff, building administration, and central office staff.Responsibilities include:
Chair team meetings, take notes, and maintain all documents according to the district checklist for the student folder. Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of school programming and available services. Facilitate the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that are data-driven and comply with both federal and state regulations. Lead Initial, Annual, and Re-evaluation Team meetings, ensuring all required members are present and that the parents' rights are clearly communicated. Monitor strict state-mandated timelines for evaluations (30 days to test, 45 days to meet) and annual renewals. Ensure all applicable students have a Transition Plan that outlines postsecondary goals for employment, education, and independent living. Act as a facilitator when disagreements arise between parents, outside advocates, and school staff to reach a consensus that serves the student's best interest. Serve as the primary point of contact between the district's central office, building-level administration, and school special education staff. Review IEPs and Progress Reports written by staff for quality, clinical accuracy, and professionalism. Coordinate with the Students Services Director for students in specialized private placements or collaborative programs. Determine the assessments and reports necessary for three-year re-evaluations, and coordinate with the school psychologist and teachers to ensure completion. Ensure all students' IEPs accurately have the necessary accommodations or alternative assessments required for state testing. Collaborate with the high school counselors to ensure that students meet local graduation requirements. Lead the Team during disciplinary proceedings to determine if a student's behavior was a manifestation of their disability. Perform all other duties as assigned by the Student Services Director and the Principal.Position Type:
