The School Director is assigned special projects that encompass several schools or the entire company. The School Director works closely with the Director of Operations of the company and other School Directors in delivering high quality educational programs that are consistent with the policies and procedures of Schoolhouse Montessori Academy. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Supervises and oversees all activities, events, and personnel at the school site to ensure that a quality Montessori program is implemented and that the school is operated within the policies and procedures of Schoolhouse Montessori Academy, as well as according to the state of Michigan-Department of Human Services licensing rules for child care. Ensures that classroom teachers provide instruction and activities that are consistent with the Montessori curriculum set forth in the school's curriculum and the state of Michigan guidelines for school and child care operations. Strategically plans and implements activities that help to meet or exceed annual student enrollment, retention goals and income goals. Manages the school in fiscally responsible manner; manages the budget and budgeting process to ensure the continued success of the school. Meets with parents at individual and/or conference meetings in reference to students' classroom progress as needed. Coordinates and implements Open House, Parent Tours, individual new family interviews, and other school events and activities. Creates an exciting and challenging learning environment, using the Montessori pedagogy, for all children. Monitors school activities to ensure student and staff safety, health, and well-being. Completes special projects for the company and/or works with Human Resources as required to develop existing and new schools: including, but not limited to, staff training, hiring/interviewing, licensing, curriculum development, materials and supply purchasing, temporary staffing assignment. Attends all staff meetings, in-service training, and other events, workshops, and seminars as requested by the Director of Operations. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations. Maintains regular and consistent attendance as an essential function of the position of the School Director. Minimum Qualifications Minimum of 2 years' experience as a Lead Teacher or Administrator A four-year college degree or higher in a child-related field (elementary education, child guidance/counseling, child psychology, family studies, social work). Montessori credential issued by the Association Montessori International (AMI), American Montessori Society (AMS), or any other Montessori teacher training institution recognized by the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE) that meets or exceeds 270 hours of academic training. 2 semester hours in child care administration or a minimum of 3.0 CEUs in child care administration. Dedicated to the practice of Montessori educational philosophy; understanding of, and willingness to passionately promote the Schoolhouse Montessori Academy mission. Exceptional people skills; good interpersonal ability; capacity to build and maintain close relationships and trust. Business management skills; financial acumen. Looking to fill this position ASAP to provide oversight and/or training with current Director prior to their scheduled departure. Physical Requirements Capable of performing the physical requirements of the position which include, but are not limited to: Lifting up to 30 pounds (moving student desks, lifting a box of photocopier paper, lifting and placing a child into a car seat). Standing and walking around the school as needed to monitor, supervise, and interact with students and staff. Sitting for extended periods of time, such as staff meetings, conferences, student activities, office functions. Communicating effectively in spoken and written word. Having adequate vision, hearing, and speaking levels in order to see and interpret the school environment, hear students and staff, and speak clearly and with sufficient volume for all students and staff to hear.
