Job Description:
The Principal's role will be to work directly with staff and students in grades K through 5. This position will encompass a variety of duties directly related to improving the Climate and Culture of the Building, increasing staff collaboration, and increasing student achievement. The person serving in this capacity will work closely with the Superintendent to ensure that the School Improvement Plan is carried out and continue the implementation of curriculum and instruction. The Principal will provide assessment support and facilitation of data analysis of formative and summative assessments including the State Assessment (MSTEP), student screening, and ongoing progress monitoring. The position also includes working with parents and community members, and other district initiatives.
Essential Functions:
Provide leadership to staff regarding instruction, management, and the whole child. Evaluate current school intervention efforts in light of what the research establishes as effective practices for struggling students and identify which practices need to be revised. Work with all staff to ensure consistency and fidelity within Title I Schoolwide Plan. Plan and coordinate MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Support) schoolwide. When necessary, conduct professional learning sessions or work with consultants to ensure the successful implementation of best practices in all areas. Attend professional learning sessions along with the staff in order to keep current on strategies being implemented. Facilitate the use of data for classroom, school, and district analysis in relation to achievement, demographics, etc. and how to adjust our practices accordingly. Communicate regularly with parents, teachers and central office administrators. Provide oversight for the district and building Professional Learning Communities. Work with students and staff daily through regular school operations. Implement a positive communication system with staff, students, and parents.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Earned Master's Degree. 2. In possession of (or willing to acquire) Michigan Administrator Certification for Elementary Principal. Prefer elementary principal experience. 3. Five (5) years of K-12 teaching experience at the elementary level preferred. 4. Tenured as a public school teacher. 5. Extensive knowledge (practical and theoretical) of elementary school curriculum development with emphasis on all five core content areas. 6. Knowledge of current research and best practices. 7. Possess knowledge of turnaround competencies to provide leadership in the development of a "climate" most conducive to enhancing student academic achievement. 8. Awareness of PA25 Quality Issues and School Improvement Planning. Professional Learning Communities, Response to Intervention. 9. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with students, staff, public and administration while maintaining accountability. 10. Demonstrated skills in the use of data analysis. 11.
