General Description:
As the Lead Online Graduate Academic Advisor at William Woods University, your primary responsibility is to provide academic guidance and support to graduate students enrolled in online programs. This role is crucial in helping students navigate their academic journey, achieve their educational goals, and successfully graduate from their chosen program. This position will be required to successfully manage a student caseload of approximately 350 online graduate students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide virtual advising sessions to help online students develop academic plans that align with their career goals, academic interests, and university requirements. Assist students in selecting appropriate courses each semester based on their degree requirements, academic interests, and scheduling preferences. Work with students to create long-term academic plans that ensure they stay on track for graduation within their desired timeline. Stay updated on the curriculum, policies, and procedures of the online graduate programs offered by William Woods University to accurately advise students. Connect students with university resources such as tutoring services, career counseling, and academic support programs to enhance their academic success. Address academic issues and concerns raised by online students, offering solutions and guidance to help them overcome obstacles. Monitor online students' academic progress and intervene when necessary to provide support and assistance in overcoming challenges. Maintain regular communication with online students via email, phone, or online platforms to provide updates, reminders, and academic guidance. Keep detailed records of advising sessions, online student progress, and any interventions or actions taken to ensure accurate tracking of student success. Stay informed about best practices in academic advising and participate in professional development opportunities to enhance advising skills and knowledge. Work closely with faculty, department chairs, and other university staff to ensure a seamless academic experience for online graduate students.
Position Requirements:
Previous experience in academic advising, student services, or higher education administration, particularly in an online learning environment. Excellent organizational skills to manage advising caseloads, maintain accurate records, and meet deadlines. Proficiency in using technology and online platforms for communication and record-keeping. Knowledge of academic policies, degree requirements, and student support resources. Problem-solving abilities to address students' academic concerns and find appropriate solutions. Attention to detail and the ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment. Ability to adapt to changing technologies and online learning trends to enhance the advising experience. Ability to think critically and creatively to support students in achieving their academic goals.
Work Schedule:
This is an exempt position requiring 40 hours per week, 12-month position. Evening and weekend work may be required.
