Job Description

Job Title Counselor, Second Year Experience Essential Job Functions Evaluate and execute events, services, and ongoing engagement opportunities. Collaborate with Residence Life to establish and refine plans and processes for living learning communities. Collaborate with Career and Professional Services to market opportunities for career planning. Maintain close working relationships with faculty, staff, and other administrators for the purpose of ensuring student success. Facilitate student engagement by recommending resources, conducting referrals, and supporting the overall services of University College. Oversee a summer outreach experience between the first and second year to maintain engagement and support in this critical retention period. Oversee the sophomore year leadership development program. Have a thorough knowledge of academic program requirements, academic and university policies and processes. Stay well-informed of legal guidelines regarding academic advising, registration, including those regulating confidentiality and privacy, such as FERPA. Facilitate quality engagement that promotes academic success and student satisfaction for undergraduate students. Assisting customers face-to-face, telephone and electronically. Participate in University College-sponsored programs and events. Other related duties, as assigned. Qualifications Master's degree in Counseling, Education, or related field required. Experience working in a higher education on university setting. Working knowledge of Second-Year Experience programs and student success initiatives. Knowledge Skills and Abilities Knowledge of student information systems (e.g., Banner) and working proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, email/internet platforms, and social networking tools for student engagement. Skill in delivering intensive intervention services for first- and second-year students to support persistence, academic recovery, and degree progression. Skill in effectively communicating both orally and in writing with diverse student populations and campus stakeholders. Ability to track student progress, maintain accurate and confidential records, and prepare timely reports and documentation in accordance with university policies. Ability to efficiently navigate computer systems, retrieve pertinent information, and utilize software applications to support advising and administrative functions. Ability to work collaboratively as a team member while also initiating projects independently, prioritizing multiple tasks, and completing administrative responsibilities in a timely and organized manner.
