10-month position Position Summary The Athletic Director assumes responsibility for the efficient administration and leadership of the school's athletic program, reporting to the principal and collaborating with the Director of Healthful Living, Athletics & Drivers Ed. The Athletic Director coordinates scheduling, ensures compliance with NCHSAA/OPAC and district requirements, supervises and evaluates coaches, manages program needs within budget, and serves as the primary point of contact for students, families, staff, and the community. The employee also serves as a PE/Health Teacher and is responsible for planning and delivering instruction in physical education and health using the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. The teacher creates a safe and orderly learning environment, develops lesson plans aligned to curriculum goals, utilizes a variety of instructional strategies, and assesses student performance using appropriate measures. The teacher promotes physical fitness, health awareness, and positive student behavior, while maintaining accurate records, communicating with parents/guardians, and collaborating with school staff to support student learning and development. Essential Duties Athletic Program Leadership (60%): Provides overall leadership and supervision of the school's athletic program, ensuring compliance with
NCHSAA/OPAC
regulations, district policies, and school expectations. Coordinates all aspects of athletic scheduling, transportation, officials, and event operations. Oversees game preparation and management, including staffing, supervision, and facility readiness for all home contests. Supervises and supports coaches while ensuring completion of required trainings (e.g., CPR/AED). Verifies student-athlete eligibility, submits required reports, and ensures adherence to all deadlines and sanctioning requirements. Develops, manages, and monitors the athletic budget; ensures accurate handling of funds in accordance with district procedures. Oversees procurement, inventory, maintenance, and security of athletic equipment and uniforms. Serves as the primary point of contact for athletics, addressing questions and concerns from students, families, staff, and the community. Communicates athletic schedules, events, and updates to stakeholders and promotes school athletic programs. Leads athletic recognition programs, awards, and special events. Ensures implementation of emergency action plans, athletic policies, and coach handbooks; collaborates with district leadership on updates. Represents the school at conference, district, and state meetings, as well as booster club functions. Instruction (PE/Health � 40%): Designs and delivers instruction aligned to the North Carolina Standard Course of Study for Healthful Living, including units on fitness, movement skills, personal health, and lifelong wellness. Facilitates structured physical activity and skill development that builds students' confidence, teamwork, and understanding of healthy lifestyles. Establishes clear routines, expectations, and safety procedures for gym, outdoor, and locker room environments to ensure a well-managed and respectful learning space. Uses a range of instructional approaches (e.g., skill demonstrations, small-group activities, fitness tracking, and student goal-setting) to engage learners at varying ability levels. Monitors and assesses student progress through performance-based tasks, fitness assessments, and health-related assignments; maintains accurate records in alignment with district expectations. Communicates regularly with students and families regarding progress, participation, and wellness goals. Collaborates with colleagues, student support staff, and administration to reinforce positive behavior, support student needs, and contribute to school-wide initiatives. Education/Experience Requirements NC Teaching License required Bachelor's Degree required Needs to meet requirements established by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Knowledge of relevant district, local, and state laws Previous coaching experience Ability to effectively assess and address needs of the school athletic program Must possess administrative, organizational and financial skills in addition to a thorough knowledge of athletic policy and procedure Physical Requirements Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards Will have to lift and distribute athletic equipment Disclosure This document provides descriptive information about the above Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School position.
