$85,000 - $95,000 + School Description Eugenio María de Hostos Charter School (EMHCS) is a K-12 school serving over 1,000 students. EMHCS offers a dual language program at the elementary campus. Our school is fortunate to have staff, students, and parents working together to create partnerships for learning. It is the mission of the Eugenio María de Hostos Charter School to create a safe and nurturing community of learners where students earn the Seal of Biliteracy (English and Spanish), learn to advocate for social justice, and are prepared to enjoy and access what the world has to offer. Summary of Position The Assistant Principal is responsible for advancing academic excellence through strong instructional leadership, effective assessment practices, and collaborative support of teachers and instructional staff. This role ensures high-quality teaching and learning, promotes student achievement in literacy and content areas. The Assistant Principal also contributes to the efficient management of daily school operations. Essential Functions Instructional Leadership & Academic Oversight Lead and support the implementation of high-quality, standards-based instruction across all grade levels. Monitor and strengthen teaching practices with a focus on writing and reading comprehension skills. Collaborate closely with Instructional Coaches to plan, model, and refine effective instructional strategies. Use student performance data to guide instructional decisions and promote continuous academic growth. Assessment & Data-Driven Practices
  • Oversee school-wide assessment systems, ensuring alignment with curriculum and instructional goals. Analyze assessment data and facilitate data conversations with staff to inform instruction and interventions. Support teachers in using data to differentiate instruction and improve student outcomes. Teacher Supervision & Evaluation
  • Conduct regular classroom observations and provide timely, actionable feedback to teachers. Utilize the Danielson Framework for Teaching to guide observation, evaluation, and professional growth. Support the development and implementation of teacher improvement plans as needed. Professional Development
  • Design, lead, and facilitate ongoing professional development aligned with school goals and instructional priorities. Build teacher capacity in effective instructional strategies, student cognitive engagement, High- level questioning, and differentiated learning. Student Support & Family Engagement
  • Conduct parent conferences to discuss student academic progress, including support for ELLs and students with special needs. Partner with families to ensure understanding of instructional programs and student learning needs. Support the implementation of interventions and services for diverse learners. School Operations
  • Assist the Principal in managing daily school operations, including scheduling, student discipline, and school-wide procedures.
Maintain a safe, orderly, and positive learning environment for all students and staff. Additional Roles and Responsibilities  Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor. Exempt positions are to attend their regular school-year schedule, which may include some evenings, weekends, and/or summer responsibilities for training and planning.
Education / Experiences
/ Qualifications  Master's degree in Educational Leadership or related field.  Valid administrative certification.  Demonstrated experience in instructional leadership, teacher supervision, and data-driven decision-making.  Strong knowledge of curriculum, assessment, and effective instructional practices.  Experience working with diverse student populations, including ELLs and students with special needs. Physical Demands This position does require occasional standing and squatting, frequent sitting, and lifting to 10 lbs.
