com/ Reports to : Principal of Holy Name High School Holy Name High School is pleased to accept applications for the position of Athletic Director. This position would be effective in the 2026/2027 school year. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Cleveland was founded on April 23, 1847. Under the Leadership of the Bishop of Cleveland, it is the twenty-third largest diocese in the United States. The Diocese encompasses the counties of Cuyahoga, Summit, Lorain, Lake, Geauga, Medina, Wayne and Ashland. There are approximately 700,000 Catholics in the Diocese, and Catholic Charities-Diocese of Cleveland is one of the largest diocesan systems of social services in the world. There are 185 parishes, 85 Catholic schools, 1 pastoral center and 1 mission office within the Diocese. The Catholic Diocese of Cleveland and Holy Name High School are pleased to accept applications for the position of Athletic Director. Founded in 1914, Holy Name High School is a diocesan-sponsored, co-educational, comprehensive high school with a college preparatory emphasis and is committed to leading young adults to Christ by educating them in mind, body, and spirit. With a population of more than 600 students in grades nine through twelve, Holy Name High School provides young men and women with a nurturing and supportive educational environment in which to grow academically, spiritually, socially, and morally. The Athletic Director provides leadership, supervision, and coordination for the interscholastic athletic program in alignment with the mission, values, and educational philosophy of Holy Name High School. The Athletic Director promotes student-athlete development, academic achievement, sportsmanship, and faith-centered character formation while ensuring compliance with all applicable policies of the school, diocese, and the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Athletic Program Leadership:
Direct and oversee all aspects of the school's athletic programs. Promote a positive, faith-based athletic culture emphasizing sportsmanship, discipline, integrity, and teamwork. Develop long-range goals and strategic plans for athletic program growth and improvement. Ensure athletic programs support the academic mission of the school.
Compliance and Governance:
Ensure compliance with all OHSAA regulations, league requirements, diocesan policies, and school policies. Maintain accurate eligibility records and required athletic documentation. Serve as the school liaison to athletic conferences, officials, and governing organizations. Monitor student-athlete academic eligibility and conduct standards.
Personnel Management:
Recruit, recommend, supervise, and evaluate coaches and athletic staff. Coordinate coach orientation, professional development, and certification requirements. Promote accountability and professionalism among coaching staff. Assist in resolving conflicts involving coaches, parents, students, and officials.
Scheduling and Event Operations:
Coordinate all athletic schedules, transportation, facilities usage, and contest management. Supervise home athletic events and ensure proper game management procedures. Arrange officials, security, medical coverage, and event staffing as needed. Oversee facility preparation and athletic equipment management.
Budget and Administration:
Prepare and manage the athletic department budget. Monitor expenditures, fundraising activities, and purchasing procedures. Oversee inventory, maintenance, and replacement of athletic equipment and uniforms. Collaborate with advancement and booster organizations to support athletic initiatives.
Student-Athlete Development:
Encourage academic success, leadership development, and spiritual growth among student-athletes. Promote student participation in athletics consistent with school philosophy. Assist students and families with college recruiting processes when appropriate. Support student wellness, safety, and sports medicine protocols.
Communication and Community Relations:
Serve as the primary spokesperson for the athletic department. Communicate effectively with students, parents, faculty, alumni, and community stakeholders. Foster positive relationships with diocesan, and community organizations. Promote athletic achievements through school communications and media outlets.
Risk Management and Safety:
Ensure compliance with health, safety, and emergency procedures. Coordinate concussion protocols and medical clearances. Collaborate with school and maintenance staff to maintain safe athletic facilities and playing conditions. Implement and monitor transportation and supervision procedures for athletic travel. Minimum Qualifications /
Requirements:
Commitment to the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church and to best practices in Catholic education. Familiarity with the teachings, traditions, and policies, which apply to formation and development of high school-aged youth. The position requires VIRTUS certification and FBI/BCI background check. Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred in Education, Sports Management, Athletic Administration, or related field. Valid Ohio educator or administrator license. Valid Ohio Pupil Activity Permit preferred or ability to obtain required credentials. Minimum of 3-5 years of successful coaching, teaching, athletic administration, or related leadership experience. Knowledge of OHSAA bylaws, eligibility standards, and compliance requirements. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Experience with scheduling, budgeting, and event management preferred. Ability to supervise coaches, staff, volunteers, and student-athletes effectively. Current CPR, AED, First Aid, Mental Health training, Sudden Cardiac Arrest Training, Concussion Training, and Fundamentals of Coaching certification required.
Salary range for position:
$68,000
