- The Chief Building Official is an executive leadership role appointed by the Mahoning County Board of Commissioners and reporting to the Chief of Development.

Integrity | Accountability | Collaboration | Loyalty | Respect | Excellence | Diversity Key Responsibilities- Provide strategic leadership and administration of the Building Inspection Department in alignment with County goals and priorities
- Serve as the chief administrative and enforcement officer for Ohio building codes, trade licensing, and county safety ordinances
- Oversee permitting, plan review, inspections, enforcement actions, and specialty licensing boards to ensure regulatory compliance
- Modernize building safety operations through technology, performance metrics, and customer-centered service improvements
- Develop, administer, and monitor the department budget; mange contracts and resources effectively
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate staff; oversee recruitment, training, performance management, and labor relations
- Coordinate with County departments, external agencies, and community partners on building and infrastructure initiatives
- Represent the County in legal matters, public hearings, professional organizations, and regulatory forums
- Communicate complex technical and regulatory information clearly to diverse audiences
- Maintain professional certifications and ongoing continuing education
- Perform other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Level 5 Commercial Building Official Certification with applicable specializations issued by the Ohio Board of Building Standards.
- Bachelor's degree with major course work in architecture, structural or civil engineering, or related field
- Minimum of four (4) years of supervisory experience in a unionized environment Valid Ohio driver's license and ability to meet County driving eligibility standards Why Work for Mahoning County?
