DESCRIPTION
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
REQUIREMENTS
Summary:
To provide leadership of special education and special services programs and the day-to-day management needed to maintain and improve the quality of the programs. Prepare and monitor the special education and special services budgets and the District's special education plans in compliance with existing governmental regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Directs program development and evaluation in the area of special education and special services, as designated by the Director of Student Services. Coordinates the placement of children identified as requiring special education programs/services. Maintains special education records and prepares reports for the Intermediate Unit and Pennsylvania Department of Education. Formulates staff development programs for special education and regular education staff. Coordinates reevaluation of children in special education programs. Coordinates planning, purchasing, use and review3 of special education texts, materials and supplies. Participates in the recruitment, interviewing, selection, deployment and evaluation of professional staff related to the special education and special services areas. Assists in the development of the strategic plan for education of exceptional children in the District. Supervises development, implementation and evaluation of individual educational programs for exceptional children. Ensures district compliance with state and federal standards and regulations relating to the operation of special education programs. Prepares special education budget. Maintains a cooperative relationship with building principals to develop, maintain and deliver appropriate services in their buildings. Maintains programs coordination with district curriculum supervisors. Coordinates the review, development and implementation of Special Education Curriculum, as needed. Consults with building administration regarding Chapter 15/504 procedures and issues. Other duties as may be assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Post graduate degree in Special Education. PA certification as a Supervisor of Special Education. Successful experience as a teacher, administrator and/or supervisor of Special Education. Strong communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work with other people. Knowledge of contemporary issues and methodologies in special and regular education. Knowledge of state/federal special education regulations and laws. Knowledge of federal court and state appeal due process hearing decisions. Knowledge of and ability to model effective teaching techniques/strategies for students with various exceptionalities.
