To learn more visit www.calstrs.com The California State Teacher's Retirement System (CalSTRS) is seeking to hire two (2) student assistants to independently and collaboratively perform various assignments including reviewing and processing retirement related forms and/or documents, and maintaining and updating statistical reports on Excel and SharePoint; these tasks requires the ability to understand and analyze information to ensure compliance with the Teachers' Retirement Law and CalSTRS policies and procedures under the general supervision of a CalSTRS Supervisor. Under the general supervision of a CalSTRS Supervisor, the student assistant will receive training from the departmental staff and gain practical experience by observing and assisting with the work performed; assist in and support the Employer Services Division; analyze and evaluate data. Perform routine tasks in a learning capacity, on elements of the forms review and processing forms and document reviews which requires the ability to understand and analyze to ensure compliance with the Teachers' Retirement Law and, policies and procedures; assist in the analysis, review and other related administration activities in the department, including opportunities to assist with general phone-call and email request. The student assistant must exercise a high degree of discretion, confidentiality, and initiative to resolve issues. Conditions of Employment This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. Compensation $19.00 to 22. 00 per hour. Minimum Qualifications Must complete each term with minimum unit requirements for Undergraduate and Graduate student classifications. Proof will be collected at the end of each Spring and Fall term. Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word and SharePoint. Must maintain a courteous, professional demeanor when working with staff. Must have a high level of customer service. Experience communicating effectively, verbally and written. Must be reliable and dependable, with the ability to work independently and in a team environment. Must have analytical, and organizational skills with strong attention to detail. Ability to adapt to changes in workload, prioritize workload, and shift focus when needed. Knowledge of elementary statistics and understanding reports. Good critical thinking skills. Experience with data entry. Duties and Responsibilities Perform initial review and analysis of the forms to ensure eligibility, accuracy and completeness. Review to understand and apply the eligibility requirements for membership based on the Teachers' Retirement Law and CalSTRS policies and procedures. Provide assistance with complex analytical workloads that have been escalated by technical staff. Collaborate with various teams when data discrepancies are identified to ensure data integrity. Reviews and analyzes member account information, member records, Teachers' Retirement Law, and resource materials as appropriate to complete inquiries. Be highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint to track work performed, gather data on the information being tracked, and reporting out to management when necessary. Perform quality assurance for forms processing to ensure accuracy and track results for internal auditing purposes. Draft written communication using templates to various business partners. Complete data entry into various CalSTRS systems. Engage in verbal and written communication with various business partners. Collaborate with division analysts to resolve escalations. Analyze and provide recommendations on processes to employers and internal business partners. Train and assist new student assistants. Prepare and mail audit-related letters to members. Knowledge share as necessary. Physical Requirements Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, and scanners with or without reasonable accommodation. Working Conditions Work is performed in a hybrid environment. Students/Employees will be required to work according to the current UEI remote workplace policy and sign a UEI Work from Home Agreement. The decision to permit an employee to work from home is at the discretion of the supervisor or employer and may, at any time and with or without cause, unilaterally terminate the option to work from home.
