Assistant Principal Coventry High School Reports To:
Principal or DesigneePrimary Function:
Serve as an instructional and administrative leader of the high school, supporting the Principal in overseeing daily operations, maintaining a safe and positive learning environment, and promoting student success. This role emphasizes student well-being, staff collaboration, and effective school management.
Minimum Qualifications:
Masters degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or related field;Valid Rhode Island certification as a Building Level Administrator;Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience at the secondary level;Prior administrative experience preferred;Proven ability to build collaborative teams and positive school culture;Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
Terms and Conditions of Employment:
220-day work year. Salary and benefits per administrative contract. This position is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable employment contract and School Committee policies.
Key Responsibilities:
Instructional LeadershipAssist in coordinating curriculum, instructional programs, and academic standards in collaboration with the Principal;Support the supervision and evaluation of certified faculty and support staff;Participate in school improvement initiatives and instructional planning;Assist with student scheduling and course assignmentsSchool OperationsOversee daily operations in assigned areas of responsibility;Maintain high visibility throughout the school to support a safe and orderly environment;Assist in the supervision and discipline of students in collaboration with the Deans of Students;Coordinate and support state testing and other school-wide initiatives;Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent;Provide administrative supervision and maintain a visible presence at school-sponsored events, including after-school, and evening activities.

Student Support ServicesCoordinate and participate in MTSS, Section 504, SIT, IEP, attendance and truancy-related meetings;Support student behavioral and academic interventions;Facilitate parent/teacher conferences and meetings involving students, families, and staff;Oversee and support student activities and programsStaff Supervision and CollaborationSupervise and evaluate educators and support personnel as assigned;Serve as liaison among departments, teams, and stakeholders;Promote a collaborative and professional work environment;Family and Community EngagementAssist in coordinating communication and public relations related for school activities;Organize and support parent programs, orientations, and school communications;Foster positive relationships with families and the school community
Essential Functions and Work Conditions:
The essential functions of this position require the ability to communicate effectively, supervise students and staff, and perform duties in a dynamic school environment. The employee is regularly required to operate a keyboard, to view a computer screen, and to sit or stand for extended periods of time; Required vision abilities include close vision and the ability to adjust focus;The employee is frequently required to bend, stoop, kneel, reach with hands and arms, grasp and manipulate large and small items;The employee is also required to move from location to location, lift items weighing up to 30 pounds, and drive a vehicle;Communication requirements include the ability to hear and respond to voice and other sounds in small and large settings with background noise and to present information orally and in writing;The employee may need to engage in CPI restraint and must be able to receive CPI training
Evaluation:
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the School Committees policy on Evaluation of Administrative Personnel.
