SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for directing, coordinating, evaluating, and improving the educational program in grades PreK-12 and recommending those policies and practices which are designed to enhance the educational opportunities offered to children in Hampton City Schools. The work involves ensuring that programs and opportunities are of the highest quality commensurate with the resources provided and involves developing and directing implementation of long-range and short-term goals and objectives, and monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of instructional outcomes.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Serves as a member of the Division Leadership Team and attends all executive staff meetings. Translates the division's educational philosophy, goals and objectives into action terms that directly benefit students and support teachers in the division. Ensures achievement of applicable goals and objectives as outlined in the division's strategic plan to include metrics to track and evaluate progress. Provides leadership for innovative curricular/instructional programs to include revised methodology and materials targeting special populations and theme-based academy programs. Assists in the writing of proposals to secure state, federal, and private funds to support division initiatives. Assists in resource allocation by overseeing the preparation and execution of the budget for the curriculum and instruction department. Directs, through subordinates, the planning, implementation, support and evaluation of instructional activities and programs designed to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the instructional process. Supervises the selection and adoption of instructional materials to include textbooks and supplemental instructional materials. Attends School Board meetings and prepares and presents reports for the Board as requested. Oversees and evaluates direct reporting department leaders as assigned on the division's organization chart.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Demonstrated successful experience as a building principal for a minimum of three years is required. Possession of a doctoral degree in school administration is preferred. Ability to plan, supervise, and evaluate work of professionals and administrators. Ability to participate in program assessment and evaluations. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, including the ability to make presentations to community groups, organizations, school, and city officials. Ability to develop and maintain successful cooperative relationships with staff and school personnel and with the general public. Strong organizational, human relations, and communication skills.
