04/03/2026 POSITION SUMMARY Lynchburg City Schools seeks a dedicated, student-centered leader to serve as Assistant Principal of E.C. Glass High School. The Assistant Principal will support the Principal in driving academic achievement, strengthening school culture, and ensuring a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment. This role is designed to both support the overall leadership of the school and develop leadership capacity, while maintaining a strong focus on instruction, operations, and student outcomes aligned to VDOE expectations. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This role is intended to build leadership capacity.
The Assistant Principal will:
Work closely with the Principal on school improvement planning and implementation Develop skills in instructional leadership, data analysis, and staff supervision Take on increasing leadership responsibilities aligned to school needs Contribute to a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement Support and monitor high-quality instruction aligned to improved student achievement and SOL outcomes Use data to support instructional decisions, track progress, and inform interventions aligned with VDOE standards Assist in establishing and maintaining a safe, orderly, and supportive school environment Support implementation of fair, consistent, and effective student discipline systems Maintain a visible presence throughout the school, including classrooms and common areas Collaborate with teachers and PLC teams to strengthen instructional practices Support teacher growth through feedback, coaching, and evaluation processes Assist with daily school operations, including scheduling, supervision, and testing coordination Build positive relationships with students, staff, families, and community partners Communicate clearly and consistently with stakeholders Support management of school resources, including safety procedures and operational systems

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Virginia postgraduate professional license with endorsement in Administration and Supervision PreK-12 (or eligibility) Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience Demonstrated leadership experience (e.g., teacher leader, dean, instructional coach, or administrative experience preferred) Demonstrated ability to support instructional improvement and student achievement, including SOL performance Experience supporting a safe, structured, and positive school climate Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with stakeholders
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of instructional practices, curriculum alignment, and Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) to support student achievement and accreditation goals. Knowledge of data analysis, assessment systems, and intervention strategies aligned with Virginia Department of Education standards. Knowledge of school operations, discipline systems, and safety procedures to support a structured and supportive school environment. Skill in analyzing student data to support instructional decisions, monitor progress, and implement targeted interventions. Skill in coaching and supporting teachers through feedback, collaboration, and evaluation to improve instructional practices. Skill in communicating effectively with stakeholders to build trust, collaboration, and shared accountability. Ability to support a culture of high expectations, accountability, and continuous improvement focused on student achievement. Ability to assist in maintaining a safe, orderly, and supportive school environment through consistent systems and practices. Ability to build relationships and collaborate with stakeholders to support teaching, learning, and school operations.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
Directly supervises all school employees including but not limited to the administrative, custodial, instructional, and student support staff Participates in the hiring process and makes hiring decisions of other employees Instructs, trains, coaches, and mentors other employees Schedules (determine hours worked, time off), reviews, and monitors the work of other employees Completes written evaluations of other employees Makes recommendations of disciplinary actions of other employees

Reliable transportation, necessary Minimal travel within the City of Lynchburg as needed
