  • $115,445 Position Summary Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent or designee, this position provides flexible, district-wide administrative leadership to support school operations, instructional practices, and organizational stability.
The Floating District Administrator serves in a variety of capacities, including acting principal when needed, supporting school leadership teams, assisting with complex staff or student matters, and leading district initiatives. This role is designed to ensure continuity across buildings, provide experienced leadership during transitions or absences, and strengthen system-wide practices.
Essential Functions:
Travel between district sites as directed. The schedule may vary daily based on district and building needs. Serve as acting principal during administrator absences, vacancies, or leaves Maintain safe, consistent, and effective school operations Support student discipline, supervision, and day-to-day decision-making Ensure alignment with district expectations, policies, and procedures Provide support to principals and assistant principals as needed Assist with employee investigations, conflict resolution, and performance concerns Respond to student and staff incidents, including safety, behavioral, and compliance-related matters Support implementation of district policies and legal requirements, including HIB, Title IX, and nondiscrimination procedures Assist in managing sensitive or high-impact situations requiring administrative leadership Assist with implementation of new programs, systems, or processes Facilitate professional development and staff training as assigned Support communication with families during complex or sensitive situations Serve as a representative of the district when working across multiple school communities Assist in maintaining positive relationships with students, families, and community members Acts with the delegated authority of the Assistant Superintendent . Qualifications Master's degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or related field. Valid Washington State administrator/Administrator (Principal) certification. Minimum of 2-5 years of educational leadership experience. Strong knowledge of instructional practices, curriculum standards, and school operations. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to make sound decisions under pressure and manage multiple priorities. Competencies Leadership and decision-making skills. Flexibility and adaptability in dynamic situations. Physical & Environmental Requirements (As needed to perform essential job functions) Moves throughout the school building frequently (standing, walking, occasionally running as needed to support students and activities). Ability to participate in approved de-escalation and physical intervention techniques as necessary to ensure student safety. Stoops, bends, or otherwise changes posture as required to assist students or access materials. Works comfortably amid typical school noise, activity, or crowd levels (e.g., in classrooms, hallways, during transitions). Participates in evening and weekend school events when scheduled. Working Conditions (As related to essential job functions) Works primarily indoors in classrooms, offices, and common areas; occasionally outdoors for student supervision, transitions, or events. Exposed to typical school noise and activity levels, including crowded hallways, lunchrooms, and assemblies. Encounters varied temperatures when moving between indoor and outdoor settings or in less-controlled spaces (e.g., gymnasiums, playgrounds). May occasionally work near cleaning supplies, office equipment, or minor physical hazards typical of a school setting (e.g., slippery floors, tripping hazards).

Subject to changes in daily or weekly schedules to meet student or building needs.

Work Environment:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: Generally, the job requires 10% sitting, 50% walking, and 40% standing. The job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment. Benefits:
School Employee Benefit Board (SEBB) Eligibility determination: All eligibility determinations are based on rules in Chapters 182-30 and 182-31 of the Washington Administrative Code (WAC). If the position is anticipated to work a minimum of 630 hours in a school year, then that position would be deemed benefit eligible. SEBB benefits include medical, vision, dental, long-term disability and life insurance. Supplemental coverages are also available.
Retirement Eligibility determination:
A certificated position participates in the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) which requires at least 5 months of 70 or more hours of compensated employment during a school year to be eligible for Washington State Retirement. A classified position participates in the School Employee Retirement System (SERS) if the position is expected to require at least 5 months of 70 hours or more for two consecutive years (initially) of employment.
