Job Description General Description:
This position provides leadership within the building to provide a responsive and dynamic educational program so that all students will acquire the knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes to lead self-sufficient, well-adjusted, healthy, productive, and socially responsible lives to the best of their individual potential.
Assistant Principal Responsibilities:
Assistant principal duties are determined by their assigned principals and will also be assigned one or more District-wide programs to lead and direct. Specific assistant principal responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: Directs, supervises, facilitates, and evaluates the instructional, guidance, and other programs of the building; is responsible for educational leadership and student achievement in the assigned building; leads staff in continuous improvement of instruction and program delivery; monitors student performance within the building. Supervises and evaluates work of personnel assigned to the building; develops appropriate recommendations for staff which may involve staff development, placement, dismissal, or reassignment of personnel in conjunction with the appropriate district personnel; works with institutions of higher learning in training of teachers. Coordinates human relations within the school and between the school and its stakeholders (i.e., students, families, parent groups; community agencies, business community, etc.); ensures and promotes student welfare; exercises good judgment in dealings with students, staff, parents, and public. Leads the development of program improvement plans at the building level in collaboration with teachers and district staff; coordinates the involvement of curriculum and instruction and staff development in improving instruction and programs; coordinates building involvement in the district's curriculum and program review and implementation cycle. Participates in the formulation, interpretation, and execution of the policies and regulations of the State Board of Education. Supervises student discipline and the management of students in the lunchroom, in hallways, on school grounds, and in any program held at the school under district sanction; works cooperatively with district administrators in emergency situations. Supervises the security and care of assigned equipment, buildings, grounds, and other school property. Coordinates activities of the assigned school with activities of other schools in the district; attends a variety of activities at and for assigned school. Assists Principal in the development of the annual school budget by submitting budget requests and supporting data. Prepares reports and maintains current records as required; analyzes and utilizes the data to lead program improvement within the building. Supervises school safety program; coordinates periodic drills for fire and earthquake to ensure compliance with district, state and federal regulations. Participates at staff meetings and in-service training programs sponsored by district administration; maintains and updates knowledge and skills necessary for success in the position by participating in professional development activities as needed or as assigned. Maintains a high standard of ethics in all professional relationships, actions, and decisions. Promotes effective curriculum and program communication to flow between the building and the rest of the district. Education and Experience Master's degree and successful experience as a principal required; or any combination of experience and training which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the work. Demonstrated success as a classroom teacher. Demonstrated success as a school administrator or principal intern. Demonstrated success working in schools with similar demographics. Training and experience in Washington State teacher evaluation policies and practices preferred. Knowledge of leadership and supervisory principles and practices. Ability as a communicator, mediator, and problem solver. Ability to consensually develop a building "mission" and achieve stated educational goals. Ability to provide energetic, positive, visible, and creative leadership, and to implement change. Ability to motivate, discipline, and interact with students in an equitable and productive manner. Knowledge of technology related to public schools. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to model and encourage excellence for staff and students. Ability to develop community and parental support for all aspects of the schools. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of people in a multicultural, diverse socio-economic setting.

Training and experience in Washington State teacher evaluation policies and practices preferred. Supports and implements Eastmont School District policies, regulations, procedures and administrative directives; demonstrates loyalty to the District and other administrators. Submits records, reports and assignments promptly and efficiently. Deals with obstacles and constraints positively. Demonstrates ability to adjust to and use new approaches in the performance of his/her duties. Ability to multi-task in an environment with constant interruptions. Seeks and takes advantage of opportunities for professional growth. Maintains dress and appearance appropriate to a professional office setting. Promotes good staff morale and works harmoniously with fellow District Office staff. Assists with other responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Superintendent. Working Conditions Ability to communicate in stressful situations, utilize de-escalation strategies and promote collaboration Required to attend meetings and activities beyond regular work hours. Required to successfully complete the district provided training in student de-escalation and restraint. Required to travel within the district and community, and occasional out-of-town and overnight travel for training purposes. The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: Ability to regularly walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, pull, and occasionally sprint at a rapid speed in pursuit of students. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
