To apply, a candidate must have or be eligible to obtain a current Alaska Teacher Certificate issued by the Alaska Department of Education with an endorsement in Elementary Education or equivalent. Must have the ability to teach all levels of elementary. Must be supportive of and familiar with Montessori philosophy and instructional approach. Must possess a willingness to obtain a Montessori credential. Understanding appropriate learning activities for primary grade level students and providing evidence of successful results in primary reading instruction is essential. Must be energetic and nurturing and have a positive approach to classroom activities and students. Must be flexible and organized with a willingness, ability, and experience to teach in multi-grade classrooms. Experience with co-teaching, positive behavior supports and working with colleagues to coordinate various groupings in instruction needed. Effective communication skills are required. The ability to structure the educational program to meet individual student needs in all learning areas positively. At the same time, managing group activities is necessary, and knowledge regarding integrating technology into learning and current best practices is required. Must be willing to continue education and pursue opportunities for additional training.JOB DESCRIPTION
The teacher will primarily provide students in the primary grades with appropriate educational activities. They must embrace the Montessori philosophy, respect each child's independence, and desire to nurture the whole child. They must plan and utilize positive but firm classroom management techniques and encourage responsible behavior. They must plan and work cooperatively with peers, students, and parents and understand and provide for individual student differences. Must have excellent computer skills and be able to employ district computer programs to post grades and communicate with parents. Must be willing to participate on school committees and work collaboratively with colleagues in a positive manner. Requires a willingness to teach in an online, blended format and provide remote services to students using various technology-based platforms. The teacher will work under the supervision of the building administrator and complete other duties as assigned, including playground monitoring.CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Must have a current Alaska Teacher Certificate issued by the Alaska Department of Education with an endorsement in Elementary Education or equivalent on/or before the first contract day. Teachers instructing students in grades K-3 must have or be willing to obtain the Alaska Reads Act Reading Endorsement, as required by state regulations.Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, and the general public.Mathematical Skills:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret various instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram or schedule form.Other Skills and Abilities:
Ability to apply current research and theoretical knowledge to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents; oral and written communication skills. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.Physical Demands:
