Essential Elements:
Print Provides an educational program for pupils in Kindergarten to 8, or a combination thereof, and assists in other school programs as assigned.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES A.
Teaches reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, health, art, physical education and music to pupils, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities. May teach a foreign language to pupils. B. Instructs pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the course of study specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district. C. Provides planned learning experiences in order to motivate pupils and best utilizes the available time for instruction. D. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instructions in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil. E. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. F. Evaluates pupils academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, prepares progress reports, and communicates with parents on the individual pupil's progress. G. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems. H. Creates with assistance from pupils a functional and attractive environment for learning through displays, bulletin boards and interest centers. I. Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service education activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities. J. Performs basic attendance accounting and business services as required. K. Participates cooperatively with the principal or his designee to mutually develop the system by which he will be evaluated in conformance with the district's uniform guidelines for evaluation and assessment.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES A.
Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids and instructional supplies, and maintains required inventory records. B. Insures a comfortable room environment through control of heating, lighting and ventilation to the extent possible. C. Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day. D. Administers group standardized tests in accordance with district testing program. E. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school of assignment and/or on a district level. F. Shares in the sponsorship of student activities and participates in faculty committees. G. Participates with other professional staff members in the social hygiene and outdoors education programs.
Supervision Exercised or Received:
Under the immediate direction of the site administrator. Minimum Qualifications A. Credential-General Elementary, Standard Elementary. B.
Education:
Bachelor degree, including all courses needed to meet credential requirements. C.
Personal Qualities:
Appearance, grooming and personality which establish a desirable example for pupils. Ability to meet district standards for physical and mental health. Better than average recommendations from student teaching supervisors or other professionals who have observed the personal characteristics, scholastic attainment and classroom performance of the teacher. Goals of Effective Performance To create an elementary program and class environment favorable to learning and personal growth to establish effective rapport with pupils to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for secondary school education, in accordance with each pupil's ability to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members.
