DEFINITION
: Under the direction of the site principal, teaches reading and other language arts, social sciences, mathematics, science, art, health, physical education, and music to students in a classroom setting utilizing California State Content Standards
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
: Understands and utilizes California State Content Standards for each subject; Identifies and targets essential and power standards for all core curriculum areas; Develops daily lesson plans; Provides direct instruction to students; Establishes and maintains standards for student behavior; Provides planned learning experiences to motivate students and best utilize instructional time; Performs attendance accounting on the student information system; Records grades through the ABI process; Creates with students a functional and attractive environment for learning through displays, bulletin boards, and learning stations; Continually analyzes students' academic and social growth; Holds students accountable for classroom assignments, homework, and projects; Communicates with parents through a variety of methods to inform parents of classroom happenings and to discuss student progress; Provides positive reinforcement to students; Teaches and models the six pillars of character; Shares in sponsorship of student activities and participates in faculty committees; Develops consistent, positive classroom management; Consistently follows all 504 plans and IEP's; Meets with parents on assigned parent conference dates and any other time there is a significant issue; Provides an educational program that accommodates different learning styles and levels of ability; Administers the state testing program in accordance with state and district mandates; Cooperates and collaborates with other staff members in examining student work samples and in developing differentiated curriculum; Participates in professional development training to enhance current practices; and Perform related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge and skills of: California Content Standards, K-12; California Curriculum Frameworks and instructional materials; California Professional Standards for teachers and administrators; Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy; Analysis of test data for strengths and weaknesses, as well as trends; Reading charts and graphs; Board and district policies, procedures, and regulations; and Basic computer operation for presentations and entering grades and attendance.
Ability to:
Get along well with peers; Prepare and deliver oral presentations for parents at Back-to-School Night and Open House; Plan and organize instruction; Complete work with many interruptions; Read, interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures; Communicate effectively orally and in writing; Analyze situations with accuracy and adopt an appropriate plan of action; Meet schedules and timelines; and Present a positive image of Golden Valley Unified School District.
Education and Experience:
A Bachelor's degree, a California Multiple Subject Teaching credential including CLAD certification Licenses and Certificates Valid California Driver's license.

Physical Abilities:
Speaking and hearing in order to exchange information and make presentations; corrected or uncorrected eyesight to read a variety of materials including fine print; hearing with or without use of a hearing aid sufficient to hear telephone conversation; must frequently lift or move up to ten pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five pounds, speaking understandable voice and speech patterns; sitting and standing for extended amounts of time.
