An Elementary School Teacher teaches elementary school students, usually children ages 5 - 11 who are in kindergarten through fifth or sixth grade, in a public or private school. Teaches all subjects, including reading, writing, math, social studies and science, to one class throughout the school year. Plans curriculum and assesses student progress, manages student behavior and communicates with school parents. May specialize in teaching music, art or physical education, or teach students that are learning English, or work with students with learning disabilities or emotional and behavioral disorders.

Position Overview:
Provides instruction and is responsible for elementary students during a particular time period in all core content subjects; cannot be sole provider of art, dance, health, music, physical education or theatre arts
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based instruction in core subject areas to support student learning and achievement. Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment that promotes student growth, respect, and social-emotional development. Assess student progress through assignments, assessments, and observations, and adjust instruction to meet diverse learning needs. Communicate regularly with families and collaborate with colleagues to support student success and school goals. Maintain accurate records, manage classroom behavior effectively, and ensure a safe and structured learning environment.
Minimum Requirements:
Must hold a valid Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) educator certificate with an endorsement in one or more of the following areas: 001 (1-6), 002 (1-6), 003 (1-3), 004 (1-6), 005 (1-6), 006 (4-6), 013 (1-6), 113 (1-3), or 305 (1-6).
Preferred Requirements:
Bilingual proficiency in Spanish or Haitian Creole highly desirable.
