Grade Teacher Qualifications:

Must hold a valid Elementary Educator License issued by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or a related field from an accredited institution. Strong classroom management, instructional planning, and student engagement skills. Ability to collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and families to support student success. Commitment to creating an inclusive, supportive, and culturally responsive learning environment. Below are some of the characteristics of Horizon Science Academy McKinley Park; College preparatory curriculum focusing on mathematics, science, and technology. In middle school grades, students will be taking 10 hours of mathematics and 10 hours of English. Students will be able to take more science courses at high school level. High parental involvement through increased communication between parents and school staff, activities for parents, home visits, and parents having access to their children's records via the Internet. Educational and recreational trips to local, national, and international destinations during school year, holidays, and summer. Increased student engagement through extra-curricular activities such as clubs and sports teams. Tutoring and advanced study teams. Annual science and liberal arts fairs mandatory for all students. More individualized attention through a student advisory system and grade chairs. Teacher teams by grades.
