Two-year-olds are curious, funny, energetic, emotional, independent, determined — and learning an incredible amount about themselves and the world around them every single day. We also know that teaching this age group takes a very special kind of educator. Kaleido Kids is looking for an experienced Early Childhood Educator to lead our Two-Year-Old classroom . We are looking for someone who not only understands early childhood development, but genuinely enjoys and appreciates this age — including all of the energy, big feelings, emerging independence and rapid development that come along with being two. This is an important Lead Teacher position within our school, and we're looking for an educator who can create a classroom that is warm and nurturing while also providing the structure, engagement and consistency young children need to thrive. Who We're Looking For Our ideal teacher is someone who: Loves working with two-year-olds and understands their unique developmental needs Has strong knowledge of early childhood development and developmentally appropriate practices Understands that behavior is communication and approaches challenging behaviors with patience, curiosity and positive guidance Knows how to create predictable classroom routines while remaining flexible to children's individual needs Can plan engaging, hands-on, play-based learning experiences Understands how classroom setup, materials and activities influence children's engagement and behavior Is skilled at managing transitions and keeping children actively engaged throughout the day Encourages independence while providing appropriate boundaries and support Communicates warmly and professionally with families Can lead and collaborate with other teachers in the classroom Is dependable, patient, proactive and genuinely enjoys being part of a teaching team Experience & Education We are especially interested in candidates with professional classroom experience working with toddlers or two-year-olds in a childcare, preschool or early learning setting. However, we also encourage experienced Preschool, Pre-K and Kindergarten teachers to apply — particularly educators with an Early Childhood Education background who are excited about working with younger children.
Preferred qualifications include:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or a related field;
OR CDA/ECE
coursework combined with significant early childhood classroom experience Previous Lead Teacher or classroom leadership experience Experience developing or implementing play-based curriculum Experience with positive behavior guidance and classroom management Candidates must meet or be able to meet Illinois/DCFS requirements for the position. What You'll Do As the Lead Teacher in our Two-Year-Old classroom, you'll take an active role in creating a classroom where children are engaged, supported and excited to learn through play.
Responsibilities include:
Creating a warm, nurturing and developmentally appropriate classroom environment Establishing consistent daily routines and smooth transitions Planning engaging activities based on children's interests and developmental needs Leading short, interactive circle times with books, music, movement and conversation Creating opportunities for sensory play, art, dramatic play, building, fine-motor development and gross-motor movement Observing children and adjusting the classroom environment or activities when children need additional support or engagement Using positive guidance, redirection and proactive classroom-management strategies Supporting children as they develop language, social-emotional skills, independence and self-regulation Supporting children through diapering and toilet learning Working collaboratively with your co-teachers and school leadership Building positive, professional relationships with families About Kaleido Kids Kaleido Kids is an independently owned Chicago early childhood program serving infants through preschool-aged children. We believe young children learn best through relationships, play, exploration and developmentally appropriate experiences. We also believe teachers do their best work when they are supported, respected and given the resources they need to succeed. We're looking for an educator who wants to take ownership of their classroom while working closely with a supportive leadership team to continue developing an exceptional program specifically for our two-year-olds.
