DESCRIPTION
The Portuguese Dual Language Kindergarten teacher is responsible for utilizing research-based pedagogical strategies to teach and engage a diverse group of students within the dual immersion program. The Portuguese Dual Language Immersion Kindergarten Teacher delivers high-quality, standards-aligned instruction exclusively in Portuguese to support students' development of bilingualism, biliteracy, and cross-cultural competence. The teacher uses research-based practices to engage diverse learners in a dual language setting and collaborates closely with Special Education, ESL, and tandem partner teachers, as well as support staff, to ensure equitable access to curriculum and strong student outcomes. Teachers should be well-versed in providing accommodations for students whose IEPs require inclusion services across several content-area settings. Teachers should also be well-versed in Sheltered English Instruction (SEI) practices, best practices for dual language instruction and biliteracy, and WIDA language standards to support language development. Teachers should have experience and/or training implementing phonics instruction and assessments. Teachers must exercise culturally responsive practices to promote equity and respect for all students.
REQUIREMENTS
? Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education or Early Childhood ? Massachusetts Teaching Licensure ? Bilingual Education Endorsement ? Native or near-native fluency in Portuguese
PREFERRED REQUIREMENT
? Master's Degree in Education and/or Special Education ? 3 or more years of early childhood teaching experience ? Dual Licensure in Special Education and/or English as a Second Language ? Experience working in an urban public school setting ? Coursework in Phonics Instruction and/or Applied Linguistics ? Experience in a dual language school and/or teaching in
Portuguese DUTIES:
? Plan and facilitate lessons aligned with State Standards for Math, ELA, Social Studies, Science, Writing, and Phonics/Fluency, predominantly in Portuguese. ? Use all available technology and virtual curricula provided by the district to create engaging lessons and supports that are aligned with 21st-century skills and remote accessibility. ? Manage classroom behavior with Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies that motivate students and limit disruptions ? Incorporate Social Emotional Learning standards and curriculum that promote self
  • confidence, team-building, and informed decision-making.
? Utilize inclusive practices, best practices for dual language instruction in Portuguese, and SEI strategies for English Learners, strategies that support biliteracy, and implement WIDA frameworks to develop language skills. ? Incorporate language activities in Portuguese into content instruction, including Speaking, Reading, and Writing, that align with State Standards for Language Proficiency. ? Administer assessments in Portuguese and utilize available data to make instructional decisions that target the academic and linguistic needs of students, including MCAS and ACCESS, as well as DIBELS and other phonics, oral, and writing formative assessments. assessments. ? Salary:
Salary for this position will be based on the Everett Teachers Association Collective Bargaining Agreement.
