Position includes the following:
Instruction and Planning
  • Designs and implements high-quality, standards-based lessons aligned with district-approved curriculum and state frameworks.
  • Builds a sense of belonging in the classroom to support the academic and social-emotional development of our students.
  • Directs the teaching and learning process, focused on engaging all students.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques, materials, and instructional media, consistent with the needs, interests, and abilities of the students and the objectives of the curriculum.
  • Adapts teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse learning needs of all students, including Special Education and English Learners, and follows all requirements as outlined in students Individualized Education Plans and 504 Accommodation Plans.
  • Assesses the progress of students in terms of curriculum objectives on a continuous basis and provides progress reports as required.
Classroom Management
  • Promotes appropriate student behavior and attends to students' misbehavior when it occurs in the teacher's presence or whenever it is brought to the teacher's attention (e.g., hallways, cafeteria, etc.)
  • Sets a positive example for students and the community by demonstrating respect and concern for students and an awareness of community values.
  • Establishes and maintains a classroom environment conducive to learning and teaching.
  • Manages and fully utilizes class time for instructional purposes.
  • Takes and records attendance accurately in classes and/or homeroom, notes attendance patterns, and reports unusual and/or excessive absenteeism to supervisory personnel and parents.
  • Takes reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assists the administration in implementing policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
Collaboration and Communication
  • Cooperates with administrators and others in developing and supporting school goals and maintaining an atmosphere conducive to learning and teaching.
  • Works with colleagues, administrators, and specialists, including the Instructional Coach and/or Instructional Support Specialists, to improve instruction and student achievement.
  • Establishes and maintains productive working relationships with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Conducts school-related activities in conformity with School Committee policies and administrative regulations.
  • Maintains regular, professional, and culturally responsive two-way communication with colleagues, parents/guardians regarding student progress and student events
  • Establishes and maintains communication (oral and written) with students and their parents concerning both the academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
  • Supports the development of culturally responsive programs and activities that promote student engagement, family engagement, community involvement, and a positive school climate. Professional Development
  • Continuously self-evaluates professional effectiveness in areas of instructional practice and supporting all learners.
  • Meets all evaluation deadlines and responsibilities as outlined in the Marblehead Education Association Collective Bargaining Agreement
  • Incorporates constructive feedback and suggestions for improvement in performance
  • Maintains course/credit hours towards license renewal
  • Manages the renewal of educator licensure applicable to grade level/subject area and maintains a valid Massachusetts DESE license and SEI endorsement as applicable for the teaching assignment
Qualification:
  • Bachelors degree in education required; Masters degree preferred
  • Prior teaching experience preferred
  • Must possess or be eligible for a Massachusetts DESE license and/or certification applicable to grade level and subject area
  • Strong oral and written communication skills for interacting with students, staff, and the community
  • Proficiency in using computers and educational technology to support and enhance student learning
  • Must be committed to building and sustaining an inclusive school and classroom environment
  • Must be able to assist in the protection of students and school property, assist the principal in fire and other emergency drillsReport to: Principal, Assistant Principal, and/or Appointed Designee Evaluated by: Principal, Assistant Principal, and/or
