An Elementary School Teacher teaches elementary school students, usually children ages 5 - 11 who are in kindergarten through fifth or sixth grade, in a public or private school. Teaches all subjects, including reading, writing, math, social studies and science, to one class throughout the school year. Plans curriculum and assesses student progress, manages student behavior and communicates with school parents. May specialize in teaching music, art or physical education, or teach students that are learning English, or work with students with learning disabilities or emotional and behavioral disorders.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, student-centered Third Grade Teacher to join our Lower School faculty. Reporting to the Lower School Head, the successful candidate will create a joyful and engaging classroom where students are challenged, supported, and inspired to grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Responsibilities The Third Grade Teacher will: Foster a warm, inclusive, and engaging classroom community that supports the academic, social, emotional, and ethical development of every child. Plan and deliver an innovative, student-centered curriculum aligned with the school's mission, values, and educational philosophy. Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students and demonstrate an understanding of varied learning profiles. Maintain a classroom of approximately 18 students, creating an environment where each learner is known, challenged, and supported. Design meaningful, inquiry-based, and hands-on learning experiences that promote curiosity, confidence, collaboration, and critical thinking. Utilize a variety of formative and summative assessments, including project-based learning, to monitor student growth and provide timely, constructive feedback. Establish effective classroom routines and organizational systems that maximize student engagement and learning. Build strong partnerships with families through consistent communication regarding student progress, expectations, and learning goals. Promote a classroom culture that values diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and respect for all members of the community. Collaborate with colleagues to support interdisciplinary learning and contribute to the continuous improvement of the Lower School program. Participate fully in faculty meetings, professional development, school events, and the broader life of the Calverton community. Demonstrate professionalism, flexibility, creativity, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
Successful candidates will possess:
A bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or a related field (master's degree preferred). Experience teaching at the elementary level, preferably in an independent school setting. Strong knowledge of child development and best practices in elementary education. Experience differentiating instruction to support a range of learners. Excellent classroom management, organizational, and communication skills. A collaborative spirit and a genuine enthusiasm for working with children and families. A commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment where every student feels valued and supported.
