City Academy's Mission:

City Academy's unique approach to educating students includes utilizing the power of subject area specialist teachers. This position is for a Second Grade STEAM teacher, who would be responsible for teaching all aspects of STEAM, but particularly math and science. The City Academy Mathematics program uses a rigorous curriculum that allows teachers to differentiate instruction to develop independence, mathematical reasoning, and a love of math that is grounded in the Singapore approach to teaching. The City Academy Science program utilizes an in-house curriculum founded in inquiry-based, hands on, collaborative, and evidence-based practices. This position also includes being an advisor to 15 students which includes leading activities designed to enhance executive skills, support students' social-emotional well-being, and encourage the development of a growth mindset.Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Elementary Education, or related field Experience teaching in an elementary school setting A genuine appreciation and understanding of the joys, challenges, and needs of all developmental stages in elementary aged children Demonstrates success building executive skills, creating a classroom community and environment where all students feel safe, welcome and respected Encourages and monitors the progress of individual students and uses information to adjust teaching strategies Demonstrates an ability to build positive working relationships with students, parents and colleagues Engages parents and guardians in the education and growth of their children. Experience with designing and performing student assessments based on program standards and outcomes Experience with creating and delivering a curriculum aligned with accepted standards and established outcomes Demonstrates eagerness to pursue professional development opportunities and to transfer that new knowledge into teaching practice.Ideal Candidate:
Masters in Elementary Education At least five years of teaching experience Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds Successful integration of Responsive Classroom or similar social-emotional training and experience Experience in systematic instruction of mathematical and/or science concepts, ensuring a coherent progression of skills and knowledge across grade levels through intentional sequencing, explicit instruction, and scaffolded practice aligned with curriculum standards Experience with independent schools Warm, caring, knowledgeable, and dynamic An innovative and best-practices approach to educationTeaching Responsibilities:
Design and implement rigorous mathematics lessons for elementary students that are aligned with our Singapore math and science curricula. Create a variety of learning structures and practices that personalize instruction, enhance executive skills, and meet students where they are in their development. Develop a classroom community and environment where students feel safe, respected and ready to meet new challenges and take appropriate risks. Design and perform both anecdotal and standardized assessments based on appropriate grade-level standards and outcomes. Utilize assessment results to inform curriculum, practices and adjust individual instruction accordingly. Communicate clearly and effectively with families about their child's cognitive, social/emotional, and physical development Develop strategies in partnership with families to support the child's growth and development at school and at home Consistently show understanding, respect, and sensitivity for cultural differences Keep current on the development and best practices in her/his field and pursue professional development opportunities to enhance pedagogy.
