Summary:
To provide guidance and instructional experiences that are academically and developmentally appropriate for each student assigned to the classroom.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the content area(s) and approved curriculum.
  • Differentiate instructional methods and resources in each area taught.
  • Recognize student diversity and create an atmosphere conducive to the promotion of positive student involvement and self-concept.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to examine and implement change.
  • Communicate accurately and effectively in the content area and maintain a professional rapport with students.
  • Comprehend the principles of student growth, development and learning, and apply them appropriately.
  • Obtain feedback from and communicate with students in a manner that enhances student learning and understanding.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching methods and resources for each area taught. Use appropriate techniques, strategies, and materials to achieve the desired instructional goal. Understand and apply learning theories.
  • Encourage the development of student involvement, responsibility, and critical thinking skills.
  • Manage the classroom to ensure the best use of instructional time. Develop and implement appropriate classroom management strategies while maintaining high expectations for student behavior.
  • Create an atmosphere conducive to learning, self-discipline, and development of realistic and positive self-concepts. Encourage cooperation among students.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by the school district, and report progress or lack thereof to parents in a timely manner.
  • Take precautions to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Work productively with administration, colleagues, parents, and community.
  • Prepare for instruction and show written evidence of preparation (lesson plans)
  • Complete duties (hall, bus, etc.) as assigned.
  • Leave adequate preparations for a substitute.
  • Use current technology for instruction and management.
  • Use diagnostic data to improve instructional programs.
  • Report suspected child abuse and neglect.
  • Be responsible for students on field trips.
  • Act as a good role model within the context of the school.
  • Attend staff meetings, and serve on committees as necessary.
  • Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence as available.
  • Accept other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the supervisor, in accordance with board policy and New Mexico state statutes.
  • Comply with all Board of Education policies, administrative regulations, Public Education Department guidelines and local, state and federal laws.

  • Support and comply with grant, program and/or funding source requirements

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Valid New Mexico teaching license
  • Endorsements as required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of Dine language, culture, and history preferred
  • Ability to work well with children, parents and administrators
  • Ability to remain calm and be professional at all times
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Ability to multitask
Physical/Job Requirements:
Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying up to 50 pounds, climbing, bending, reaching, kneeling, driving a vehicle, traveling long distances, writing, typing, word processing, reading, researching information, and effective communication skills.

The Principal will be responsible for implementing & coordinating the instructional program for their assigned school. This charge is to be accomplished by working cooperatively with CCSD Directors, Coordinators, other principals, teachers, parents and instructional assistants. The Principal will share in the development, application and enforcement of school and administrative policies
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support district and school efforts to keep CCSD safe and secure.
  • Demonstrate foresight, examine issues and take initiative to improve the quality of education in the school community.
  • Embrace and encourage the acceptance of diversity.
  • Embrace the implementation of bilingual education.
  • Embrace the implementation of ELD (English Language Development) programs.
  • Use effective skills to communicate.
  • Ensure and plan for student success.
  • Provide and maintain a positive environment/climate where optimal student growth can take place.
  • Demonstrate instructional leadership and understand the dynamics of the educational organization.
  • Complete and implement 90-day plan inclusive of data and maintain updates as required.
  • Supervise and support assistant principals and office staff.
  • Plan for and manage the resource for which she/he is responsible including personnel, finances, facilities, programs and time.
  • Provide supervision, staff development and performance evaluations.
  • Maintain a familiarity with current educational issues through a process of ongoing professional development.
  • Meet the administrator's competencies and indicators of the District's evaluation criteria.
  • Work productively with district departments, administrators, supervisors, staff, students, parents and community members.
  • Confer with students, parents, teachers, law enforcement officers, and representatives of social welfare agencies to resolve serious student academic, attendance, and behavior problems.
  • Demonstrate adherence to established time lines and procedures.
  • Work in cooperation with assigned mentoring administrators.
  • Recruit and recommend school staff with assistance from Human Resources following district procedures.
  • Implement recruiting and retention practices.
  • Orient new staff, students and parents to school processes.
  • Establish and maintain a positive relationship with the local school community to foster understanding and support the overall school program.
  • Implement the CCSD approved curriculum.
  • Implement the CCSD student assessment plans
  • Use data to drive improvement in all areas.
  • Implement and attend effective and consistent Professional Learning Communities
  • Maintain the school handbook and insure that all assigned employees are accountable for CCSD and school policies.
