Salary Range:
$48,934 - $120,763 annually
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the guidance of the Lower School Principal, the Elementary Teacher will implement the educational curriculum in one or more academic subjects appropriate for Grades 1-8 school students, using New York State Learning Standards to guide and encourage students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. It is preferred that candidate has knowledge and experience working with Deaf Autistic students. Candidate should also have working knowledge of New York State Alternate Assessment.
PRIMARY DUTIES
Plan and deliver standards-aligned lessons across core subjects. Differentiate instruction and adapt materials to meet individual learning needs. Develop and administer instructional materials, assessments, and assignments. Implement engaging curricula, including American Reading Comprehension, Mystery Science, Unique Learning System, Handwriting Without Tears, and Second Step. Provide individualized support to address specific learning challenges. Integrate technology (e.g., Schoology, Google tools) and AAC devices into daily instruction. Monitor, assess, and report student progress and performance. Apply knowledge of IEPs and Career Transition Plans to support student goals. Supervise students during classroom and school-related activities. Maintain regular communication with families and guardians. Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and service providers to support student success. Contribute to school initiatives and uphold the school's mission and culture. Perform additional duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability and willingness to reflect and improve instructional practices. Compassionate and Passionate; Results-driven and goal oriented Excellent classroom management skills. Provide positive behavior intervention with support. Effective interpersonal communication skills with colleagues, parents, and students Knowledge of subject matter American Sign Language (ASL) proficiency Knowledge of child cognitive development and various learning styles Prior knowledge of Thinking Maps and Schoology Strong Google Suite skills preferred.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Master's degree in Deaf Education or related field. New York State Teaching Certification. Prior experience working with deaf students strongly preferred
SECURITY CLEARANCE
Required clearances include medical clearance, fingerprinted by the NYC Board of Ed, SCR, and SEL clearance
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have the ability to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times
