Friends Academy is looking for an energetic, collaborative, and student-focused Grade 4 teacher specializing in math and science. As a faculty member with a proven track record of teaching excellence, the Grade 4 educator will joyfully support, guide, and inspire our students through educational experiences that are grounded in a robust curriculum. This role is ideal for an educator who pairs mastery of their craft with a growth mindset—someone eager to collaborate with peers, engage with diverse perspectives, and continuously evolve their practice. In addition to classroom teaching, this full-time position includes actively contributing to the life of the school by leading a co-curricular activity, whether through coaching or school initiatives. The successful candidate will enthusiastically align with our Quaker mission and actively engage in the full life of the school, including faculty meetings, events, back-to-school nights, and after-school colleague meetings. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following duties are representative of the role; responsibilities may evolve to meet the needs of the department and school community: Design and deliver engaging, student-centered math and science instruction that emphasizes conceptual understanding, hands-on experimentation, and critical thinking Establish and maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful classroom community using Responsive Classroom practices, including Daily Morning Meetings and structured routines that support social-emotional growth alongside academic learning Implement research-backed best practices in elementary mathematics (such as inquiry-based problem solving and the Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract approach) to build robust mathematical fluency and reasoning Develop and facilitate experiential, inquiry-based science units that encourage students to ask testable questions, analyze data, and collaborate effectively during lab work Utilize Responsive Classroom strategies for positive behavior management , embracing the idea of continuing revelation by seeing each moment as a learning opportunity; reinforcing proactive discipline, logical consequences, and student autonomy Differentiate math and science instruction to accommodate varying learning styles and levels, ensuring all students are appropriately challenged and supported Assess student progress using a balance of formative and summative tools , utilizing data to guide instruction and providing meaningful, growth-oriented feedback to students and parents Collaborate with grade-level teams, learning specialists, and STEM specialists to align curriculum, integrate cross-disciplinary projects, and maintain positive, transparent partnerships with families
Education and Experience:
Hold a bachelor's degree (required), with a strong preference for candidates possessing an advanced degree Demonstrate a proven track record of lead teacher experience, including a background in the teaching of math and science at the lower school level Exhibit proficiency in applying modern, evidence-based instructional strategies for literacy, writing, and student-led discussion, with the capacity to foster critical thinking and clear communication skills in students Possess a sincere passion for guiding Lower School students, with the desire to joyfully inspire academic excellence and character development Showcase outstanding interpersonal and communication abilities, emphasizing collaboration, active listening, constructive feedback, and the cultivation of strong ties with the school community, colleagues and parents Embody a dedicated commitment to Quaker values, inclusive education, and active participation in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) efforts. Salary:
The salary range is expected to be $73,000-$80,000. Actual compensation will be based on the candidate's relevant and transferable years of service, and other factors, which include internal peer equity, the market, and other organizational considerations. The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.
