Lead Classroom Teacher School Year 2026 - 2027
About Little Water Prep:
Little Water Prep is a growing K-5 public charter school in Poughkeepsie, New York, committed to providing a nurturing and academically rigorous environment for all students. As we enter our fifth year, we are deepening our commitment to excellence by upholding high expectations and consistent academic and behavioral standards for every scholar. We believe that, like water, every student is essential and capable of achieving at high levels when placed in environments that are both challenging and affirming. Now serving over 300 students within the Poughkeepsie City School District, we continue to grow as a community grounded in strong systems, meaningful relationships, and measurable results.
Job Summary:
The Classroom Teacher at Little Water Prep plays a pivotal role in delivering high-quality, standards-aligned instruction that fosters critical thinking, curiosity, and a love of learning. Teachers design and implement rigorous, culturally responsive lessons, use data to inform instruction, and differentiate to meet the needs of all learners. They build strong relationships with students and families, maintain clear and consistent classroom systems, and collaborate with colleagues to ensure all scholars meet or exceed academic expectations while thriving in a structured, supportive, and joyful environment.
Key Responsibilities Instructional Excellence:
Plan and deliver rigorous, standards-aligned lessons aligned to the Little Water Prep curriculum and New York State Next Generation Learning Standards Use effective strategies, including Total Participation Techniques (TPT), to ensure all students are actively engaged Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs, abilities, and interests Integrate social-emotional learning (SEL) and culturally responsive practices into daily instruction Leverage technology and innovative tools to enhance student learning
Classroom Management and Culture:
Establish and maintain a structured, positive, and affirming classroom environment Build strong relationships with students rooted in respect, empathy, and high expectations Implement restorative practices and positive behavior supports Foster a safe, inclusive, and joyful classroom culture Follow all school safety protocols to ensure physical and emotional safety
Data-Driven Instruction:
Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student learning Analyze data to inform instruction and adjust teaching strategies Collaborate with colleagues to plan targeted interventions and enrichment Support implementation of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)
Collaboration and Professional Growth:
Participate in team meetings and professional development Collaborate with instructional leaders and colleagues to improve practice Set professional goals, seek feedback, and engage in continuous reflection Contribute to school improvement initiatives, including pilots or action research
Family and Community Engagement:
Build strong relationships with families through consistent communication Provide regular updates on student academic and social-emotional progress Facilitate conferences and family engagement opportunities
Additional Responsibilities:
Model professionalism, a growth mindset, and commitment to the school's mission Participate in school-wide events and community-building activities Perform other duties as assigned
Physical and Logistical Requirements:
Work extended hours as needed for events or programming Lift and carry up to 20 pounds (e.g., materials, student work) Navigate stairs and move between floors as needed Maintain consistent, on-site attendance during school hours and events
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Education or related field (Master's preferred) Valid New York State Teaching certification (or in progress of) Minimum of 2 years teaching experience (elementary preferred; charter experience a plus) Strong instructional, classroom management, and student engagement skills Commitment to equity, inclusion, and high student achievement Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills Experience using data to inform instruction Commitment to continuous professional growth
Compensation:
Salary Range:
$60,000 - $70,000 (commensurate with experience) Benefits include: health, dental, paid time off, retirement options, and professional development Compensation is based on qualifications, experience, and certifications

$60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
