Plan, implement, and evaluate appropriate learning experiences to achieve the school district's instructional goals and objectives. Provide direction and support to help students mature and make appropriate choices to realize their intellectual, social, and vocational potentials. Actively involve parents and colleagues as teaching partners.Minimum Qualifications:
A valid State of Ohio teacher's license appropriate for the assignment. Meet all current health requirements including a negative tuberculosis test. Evidence of a clear record as determined by the Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation and/or Federal Bureau of Investigation. Evidence of organizational and teaching skills.Essential Functions:
Perform all assigned duties according to the policies, rules and regulations of the Athens City School Board of Education and the Ohio Department of Education. Comply with all local and Federal mandates. Accountable to the Principal for compliance with directives of the Superintendent and/or his or her designee. Demonstrate broad subject matter competence and teaching proficiency. Ensure the learning process is guided toward the adopted curricular goals, objectives, and proficiencies. Analyze student needs and adjust the curriculum to address individual learning patterns. Prepare and carry out clear, useable, and sequential daily lesson plans that reflect the graded course of study. Present material using a variety of approaches, techniques, and media aids to stimulate interest, enthusiasm, and curiosity about subjects and events. Incorporate efficient use of technology in the classroom. Establish a structured learning environment for students that fosters a positive self-concept and sense of wellbeing. Use strategies that motivate children to develop problem solving and logical reasoning skills. Give students positive feedback that encourages self-reliance and personal responsibility for their educational activities and interpersonal relationships. Work with Guidance Counselors to ensure appropriate student progress with social and emotional development. Attempt to develop rapport and maintain the confidence or parents and students. Provide periodic progress reports to parents using telephone calls, notes, interim reports, report cards, and conferences, etc. Arrange to be available to parents and students for educational purposes beyond the instructional day, when requested. Maintain complete and accurate classroom records as required by law, district policy, or administrative directive. Ensure the confidentiality of privileged information. Complete appropriate student referral forms for possible assessment, as needed. Consult with the Intervention Assistance Team (IAT), as needed. Participate as a team member with the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEP) for each student identified as disabled. Collaborate with special services staff regarding instructional modifications, classroom adjustments, and/or other methods that support the attainment of educational goals and inclusion of identified students with disabilities. Provide close supervision, take reasonable precautions to ensure student safety. Promote the proper care of school property, equipment, textbooks, supplies, and other materials. Account for school resources used by students. Help communicate school rules to students. Maintain high standards for student conduct and enforce discipline according to classroom/school policy and the due process rights of students. Share in the responsibility for authorized committee work and program activities, when requested. Suggest books, equipment, instructional materials, or teaching techniques that will enhance the educational process. Prepare the assigned classroom at the beginning of the year. Retrieve inventory of supplies and equipment as required. Store equipment and supplies at the end of the school year. Participate in staff meetings and inservice training. Review literature and participate in variety of professional activities (e.g., professional associations, course work, workshops, seminars, etc.) to keep current with promising research and effective instructional strategies. Share knowledge with colleagues. Participate in afterschool programs (e.g., open house, parent conferences, etc.). Voluntarily support parent organization activities as time permits. Serve as a role model for students. Demonstrate responsibility, citizenship, respect, and courtesy. Perform other specific job-related duties, as directed.Abilities Required:
Moving freely throughout the building and grounds. Demonstrating patience, flexibility, and respect for student's confidence. Lifting, carrying, or moving equipment or supplies weighing up to twenty pounds. Maintaining a tactful disposition in dealing with other people. Stooping, kneeling, or crouching when working with young children. Promoting sound interpersonal communication with parents that focus on district's educational philosophy. Communicating effectively using language and writing skills. Exercising critical judgements and performing complex tasks independently. Reacting productively to interruptions and changing conditions. Setting priorities, organizing and completing daily tasks efficiently without supervision. Analyzing and interpreting data and formulating appropriate actions. Evaluating deficiencies and prescribing corrective actions. Identifying and expressing concerns to supervisors. Punctual and able to maintain a good attendance record.Supervisory Responsibility:

schedule work assignments, provide instructions, train, and communicate expectations to aides, student teachers, and volunteers, when assigned.Working Conditions:
Occasional exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissue. Occasional interaction with agitated or upset parents/public. Occasional interaction with disruptive or unruly students. Occasional exposure to student commotion. Work under stress to meet schedules and deadlines. Work cooperatively with others. Considerable telephone contact and paperwork are required. Duties may require occasional work during the evening and/or weekend.Performance Evaluations:
