Job Description

Lower Elementary Faculty Position Description The Stone Independent School, a problem-based day school school rooted in the practices of design thinking, experiential learning, and systems thinking, is seeking a joyful, reflective, and energetic Lower Elementary Co-Lead Classroom Teacher to join our vibrant, problem-based learning community in a mixed age, Lower Elementary (grades 2-4) classroom. This faculty member would serve as the third lead teacher in the mixed-age classroom. We are seeking an educator who is inspired by Mission, has experience with progressive education or is willing to learn, who wants their work life to feel aligned with their values, who acts with empathy, ethicality, and gratitude. All employees are expected to be full members of the school community, engaging in student life, academic purpose, and the school's Mission. Educators at Stone believe that learning is an active, experiential process and are excited to co-create an environment where curiosity is nurtured, questions are welcomed, and students are empowered to explore the world around them. The ideal candidate embraces a problem-based, interdisciplinary approach to teaching and isn't afraid to get messy—whether that means exploring the natural world, building prototypes, or collaborating with students on meaningful inquiries that connect to real-world challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and implement a responsive, progressive curriculum that supports the developmental needs of elementary learners Use a studio/workshop approach to literacy, grounded in the Science of Reading Employ a hands-on, problem-solving approach to mathematics using manipulatives and real-life contexts Facilitate inquiry-driven science and social studies units rooted in project-based learning Utilize standardized, non-standardized, formative, and performance-based assessment strategies Foster strong partnerships with families and maintain open, compassionate communication Collaborate with colleagues to support an integrated, inclusive, and equitable learning environment Integrate technology in meaningful and developmentally appropriate ways Commit to ongoing professional growth with a focus on social justice, cultural competence, and inclusive practices Actively engage with and model Stone's Mission in classroom practice and school life
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree Teaching experience at the elementary level, preferably in progressive or independent schools or a willingness to learn and work in a progressive educational environment A passion for inquiry-based, experiential learning Strong classroom management grounded in respect, relationships, and reflection Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in education We've built an extraordinary faculty that consists of innovative educators who like to ask "why": about pedagogy, about school culture, about education. Conditions of Hire:
Applicants must complete a criminal background check, inclusive of fingerprinting. In addition, applicants must complete satisfactory reference checks, confirmation of compliance with federal and state employment laws, and any other required condition of employment.
Pay:
$35,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
