Such subject areas are in fields recognized by the New York State Department of Education. Incumbents of these positions work with diverse groups of individuals that have broad ranges of social and academic backgrounds, interests, physical and/or developmental disabilities, and/or mental illness. Positions are classified in agencies with formal education programs, such as the Office of Children and Family Services, Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, and Office of Mental Health. •Individual refers to a person who is being treated or cared for, and is used in place of patient, client, or other nomenclature specific to an agency. bachelor's degree including satisfactory completion of the semester hours required for the teaching specialty Teacher 2Open Competitive:
current New York State Education Department initial certification in classroom teaching in the appropriate specialty. Teacher 3Open Competitive:
current New York State Education Department permanent/professional certification in classroom teaching in the appropriate specialty. Teacher 4Open Competitive:
current New York State Education Department permanent/professional certification in classroom teaching in the appropriate specialty AND two years of post-certification (initial or permanent/professional) teaching experience in that same specialty. •Positions may require specific education or related experience. This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). For the duration of theNY HELPS
Program, this title maybe filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At this time, agencies may recruit and hire employees by making temporary appointments. In May 2024, if a temporaryNY HELPS
employee is satisfactorily performing in the position, the appointment will be changed from temporary pending Civil Service Commission Action to permanent non-competitive and the official probationary period will begin. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired underNY HELPS
will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in aNY HELPS
title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified. Some positions may require additional credentials or a background check to verify your identity.
