Job Summary The Hourly Summer School Teacher is responsible for planning and teaching students in Grades 1-5 during summer instructional sessions. The teacher provides targeted instruction to support student academic growth in a school-based classroom setting. Essential Functions
Instructional Delivery:
Provide effective instruction in reading, language arts, and mathematics, and other subject areas as needed. Plan and deliver lessons during designated summer school hours. Adapt and modify curriculum and instruction to accommodate the needs of each student.
Professional Communication:
Communicate with parents through conferences, telephone calls, e-mails, and other appropriate means to discuss student progress. Communicate and cooperate with other professional staff regarding academic and personal growth areas.
Compliance & Ethics:
Maintain professional competence through professional learning activities. Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, colleagues, and members of the community. Understand and adhere to laws, district policies, and procedures. Demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission. Strictly adhere to Granite School District procedures and policies. Non-Essential Functions Other duties as assigned. Required Knowledge and Skills
Communication Excellence:
Possess strong oral and written communication skills to effectively interact with students, parents, and school staff.
Educational Technology:
Proficiency in computer and educational technological skills to enhance student learning and manage instructional data.

Proven ability to work independently with little direct supervision while contributing effectively as a collaborative member of an instructional team.
Professional Reliability:
Demonstrates self-motivation and the ability to accept responsibility for classroom outcomes and student safety.
Classroom Management:
Proven ability to establish and maintain a positive, grade-level appropriate learning environment (Grades 1-5) and handle student management issues in a calm, professional manner.
Operational Efficiency:
Displays effective multi-tasking and time management skills to maximize instructional time during condensed summer sessions. Required Education and Qualifications Requires one of the following: A valid Professional Educator License issued by the Utah State Board of Education (USBE) with a license area in Elementary. An equivalent license in another state or country. Verification of completion of an approved educator preparation program that will result in an Elementary license prior to the date of hire.
Note:
New program graduates who have not yet received their license must upload a conferral letter from their university program in lieu of their license. This letter must include the anticipated date of graduation and the specific areas in which the applicant will be licensed.
Preferred Qualifications:
Trained in LETRS and experience in use of evidence-based interventions for literacy. ESL endorsed and experience with SIOP strategies used in diverse classrooms. Required Prior Experience Not applicable. Assigned Decision-making
Instructional Adjustments:
Authority to modify daily activities or lesson delivery to meet the immediate needs or interests of students within the approved curriculum framework.
Behavioral Intervention:
Responsible for applying approved positive behavioral supports and determining when a situation requires escalation to the Summer Program Coordinator.
Safety Protocols:
Authorized to make immediate decisions regarding student safety during emergencies, transitions, or outdoor activities in alignment with District training.
Classroom Environment:
Discretion over the organization of the physical classroom space and the use of assigned instructional materials. Non-Supervisory Interaction Interacts and collaborates with other district employees, parents, students, administrators, and secretaries in schools. Supervisory Responsibility Not applicable. Budget Responsibility Not applicable. Working Environment Work takes place in a standard school classroom setting. Tasks involve frequent standing, walking, and instructional engagement with students. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. Physical Requirements
Frequent:
Moving throughout the classroom and playground; bending, stooping, or sitting on the floor to engage with students; communicating clearly in both quiet and noisy environments.
Occasional:
Lifting or moving classroom materials or equipment up to 25 lbs; navigating outdoor terrain; exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
Vision:
Must have the visual acuity to monitor a large group of children across a wide area to ensure constant safety.
