Job Description:
AVID (Advanced via Individual Determination) is an acronym representing a system of research-based strategies enveloped into the core curriculum to increase rigor, relationships, and relevance. An AVID Elective teacher is a skilled educator, who thrives in relationship building and preparing students in the academic middle for four and two-year colleges, as well as career entry. The AVID elective curriculum is guided by the principles of WICOR; Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading. The characteristics/job responsibilities of an elective teacher encompass the following but are not limited to: Collaborate & communicate consistently with stakeholders (parents, teachers, administration, community members) on students grades, accolades, and/or behaviors Organize guest lecturers/speakers events & college visits Collect & analyze student data continuously Communicate & collaborate with other AVID Coordinators/Director Effectively communicate & collaborate with AVID Tutors Advocate for students' access and success in rigorous courses Establish & maintain high expectations for AVID Students' achievement Believe & Exemplify the philosophy "All Students can Learn" Motivate, coach, & counsel students Adapt to an ever changing educational environment Work with all subject areas (General Math, Algebra, Reading, Science, & History)
