Position Description:
NYU London is currently recruiting for a part-time lecturer to teach Academic English for Liberal Studies sponsored by NYU's Liberal Studies Program. Teaching commences in the Autumn term (Sept-Dec 2026). Course Description This class will focus on reading, writing, speaking and listening for academic purposes and is designed to provide advanced English support to students who are enrolled in degree programs full-time. Students will work with authentic sources and receive individualized feedback on accuracy, pronunciation, and both productive and receptive language skills.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, students will have learned to: Produce a range of texts that follow academic rhetorical structures (i.e., development, organization, unity, and coherence) typical for Liberal Studies assignments
Work with sources by summarizing, paraphrasing, and quoting different types of academic texts Expand academic vocabulary and syntactic sophistication
Synthesize academic sources for argumentation
Deliver clear and effective academic presentations with PowerPoint slides
Participate in classroom discussion (e.g., expressing agreement/disagreement)
Speak with appropriate volume, pace, rhythm, eye contact, body language, and clear pronunciation
Expectation of Hours:
This is a 2-credit class, which calls for total contact hours equaling about 17.5 hours. The semester is 15 weeks (14 weeks of teaching plus an exam week) and there are 1.25 hours (1 session of 75 minutes) of classroom instruction each week. In addition to the time required for course preparation, classroom instruction, and marking, the instructor is required to hold a minimum of one set 60-minute "office hour" at NYU London per week, during which time they will be available to meet with students.
Teaching information: Instructors are encouraged to use a variety of pedagogical techniques. This typically includes a combination of lecture- and discussion-based class sessions, as well as the use of student activities, such as debate exercises, flipped classroom environments, and experimental simulations.
In addition to exams, instructors may use a variety of assignments to assess student comprehension of the course material. These may include online weekly homework, writing assignments, short student presentations, and in-class multiple-choice quizzes. Instructors may select the mix that is more appropriate to their teaching methodology.
Instructors should be prepared to teach in-person and simultaneously to be prepared for remote instruction should circumstances require it. NYU uses Zoom as its primary platform for remote instruction.

Applicants must minimally have a PhD or MFA. Related fields include Writing Studies and Creative Writing, among others. Candidates must have the ability and experience to teach in the first-year writing sequence of the Core Curriculum with a global, interdisciplinary, and intersectional emphasis; experience teaching American undergraduates is helpful.
