Organization Overview The Middlesex Squared program is a three-summer, five-week college access program designed to prepare high achieving, first-gen and/or low-income high school scholars for college, with a strong focus on STEM courses, college counseling, community building, and extracurricular activities. Scholars live and learn at Middlesex School in Concord, MA where they participate in up to six hours of academic classes, followed by the Active Program in the afternoons. The program aims to foster scholars' intellectual, social, and emotional development, promoting independence and responsibility. I.
Role Responsibilities Classroom Instruction :
You will teach 1-2 sections Writing 1 with sections alternating Monday-Friday between 8am and 2:30pm. Each section will have a duration of 75 minutes per weekday, totaling 6.25-12.5 hours of classroom instruction per week.
Academic Support :
You will assist scholars during office hour sessions 1-2 times per week for 1 hour, Monday-Thursday from 11:00am-12pm.
Project-Based Learning :
Implement project-based methodologies to allow students to learn the fundamentals of writing with a focus on self-expression, poetry, and academic writing. Submit curriculum outlines, syllabus, and assessments for review.
Weekly Grading and Reporting :
Submit weekly scholar well-being reports and grades via Google Classroom, maintaining accurate academic records and supporting scholars' progress.
End of Program Submission:
You must submit full student reports, grades, homework assignments, and any other curriculum developed during the program by 5 PM on Friday, July 25, 2026
Community Events:
In addition to the teaching position responsibilities, the Writing Instructor is expected to contribute to a positive and engaged learning community. As such, they will attend the following key events:

Location and Duration The Middlesex Squared program is conducted on the scenic Middlesex School campus, located in Concord, Massachusetts. The duration of the contract will be from Wednesday, June 17th, 2026, through Saturday, July 25th, 2026. III. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in English, Creative Writing, or a related field Experience with project-based learning methodologies is a plus Previous teaching experience in respective field Strong communication and interpersonal skills Experience with supporting students from diverse backgrounds preferred Flexibility to participate in program events and an enthusiastic attitude toward contributing to the program's community. V. Compensation Our summer staffing model is designed to balance fair pay, role clarity, and long-term program sustainability. This position has a budgeted amount for the full program and reflects the scope and time commitment of the role as designed. We strive to maintain consistency and equity across our team while keeping the program accessible to students and families. This position is compensated at a flat rate of $3,000 per section taught for the full contract period, reflecting the responsibilities and time commitment of the role.
