About the Bard Early Colleges (BECs) The Bard Early Colleges (BEC) are founded on the belief that, for many young people, college can and should start at an earlier age. Acting on this belief, Bard Early College enables students to begin serious college study in place of the traditional 11th and 12th grades, at no cost to students or families. The Bard Early Colleges offer a unique home for young people's intellectual ambition: as both tuition-free, branch campuses of Bard College and public high schools, they award a high school diploma and a Bard College Associate in Arts degree (and 60 transferable credits) by the end of the 12th grade. Students are taught by Bard College faculty in undergraduate seminar classes, all deeply rooted in the liberal arts and sciences, in Bard College'smitment to excellence in teaching, and in Bard's mission as a private college in the public interest. entering its third decade, the Bard Early College network enrolls over 3,300 young people in campuses in Queens, Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Hudson, New York; Newark, New Jersey; New Orleans, Louisiana; Cleveland, Ohio; Baltimore, Maryland; and Washington, D.C. Bard High School Early College Newark (BHSEC Newark) is a partnership between Bard College and the Newark Board of Education school district (NBOE). Through a tuition-free, credit-bearing college program in the liberal arts and sciences with robust supports, BHSEC schools help high school age students, particularly those at risk of notpleting post-secondary education, access, afford, andplete college more prepared for the next steps in their academic or civic life, or in their careers. At BHSEC Newark, students have the opportunity to earn up to 60 college credits and an associate in arts (A.A.) degree from Bard College, concurrently with a high school diploma from NBOE.
Position Description:
Bard High School Early College (BHSEC) Newark, a partnership between Bard College and the Newark Board of Education school district (NBOE) in Newark, NJ, invites applications for full-time faculty positions in English/World Literature. The position start date is in late August of 2026. We seek candidates with a specialization in World Literature; expertise in literature of the Americas is especially desirable. Asian, African, or Middle Eastern Literature specialties are also being considered. Expertise in the formal teaching of research and writing is a necessity. Candidates with expertise in Global History studies may be considered for dual appointments in English and History. Candidates will teach World Literature at the high school and college levels; candidates will teach courses in their fields of specialization, as well as interdisciplinary courses in the Humanities. Successful applicants will be innovative teachers, skilled in leading interactive, seminar style classes, and engaging students from widely diverse backgrounds.
Compensation:
This is a NBOE position. The salary range is $70,000 to $114,750
