JOB OBJECTIVE

Teach in the area of Video Production Technology according to college policy. Aid in curriculum development as it relates to new and emerging media, technologies, professional practices, and media ethics. Engage in professional development regarding new technologies and processes in the industry, including software and equipment. Contribute to the general oversight of the college's HDTV studio facilities and related equipment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Teaching (65%) Teach in the area of competence according to college policy. Apply theories and principles of learning to instruction. Adapt instruction to the entry-level knowledge and skills of students. Recommend course and program changes to the academic department head when appropriate. Develop syllabi that meet college requirements and student needs. Make syllabi and course schedules available on the first day of classes, including on the course LMS. Use alternative instructional strategies where appropriate Inform students of special instructional resources located in the Libraries and/or the Academic Tutoring Center. Orient students to objectives and procedures before beginning instruction. Establish and communicate clearly defined grading procedures and standards. Give examinations and other types of evaluations necessary to determine student level of performance and understanding. Consider the results of student perception surveys and student learning outcome assessments in revising and updating content, objectives, and instructional strategies. Keep students aware of their progress in the course and maintain a gradebook on the course LMS Perform record-keeping responsibilities related to teaching and advising. Respond in a timely fashion to all reasonable deadlines. Ensure course materials meet federal accessibility requirements. Make reasonable classroom accommodations, course adjustments, and academic program modifications as necessary to provide opportunity for qualified students with disabilities who present current accommodation plans to effectively participate in the educational process pursuant to Pellissippi State Policies 03:11:01 Academic Standards and 04:07:00 Disability Services. Provide on the course LMS a "Welcome" announcement and, when applicable, information about course-related support. Non-classroom Student Interactions (5 - 15%) Be knowledgeable of the college policies, procedures, and assistance available to students. Post and be available during office hours. Hold conferences with students as needed. Advise & retain existing students and recruit new students. College and Community Service (5 - 15%) Serve on committees and task forces as appointed by the president, academic department head, or school dean. Use professional knowledge and skills to contribute to local and professional community activities whenever appropriate, working with advisory boards as appropriate. Attend faculty meetings as scheduled. Contribute to the advancement of college goals through appropriate individual goals. Participate in program or discipline-level assessment. Professional Development (5 -15%) Participate in professional development related to pedagogy and to the faculty member's discipline. Stay up-to-date regarding VPT technology.

JOB STANDARDS

Minimum Faculty Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Video or media-related field from a regionally accredited college or university, and a minimum of 3 years of demonstrated practical work experience in a relevant video-related environment. One year of higher education teaching experience. Community College teaching experience, or a clear commitment to the community college ethos, preferred. Demonstrated proficiency with industry-standard software, including AVID editing software, Adobe Premiere, DaVinci, and Microsoft Office Suite. Understanding of media convergence and the importance of multidisciplinary education as taught in the Media Technologies program at Pellissippi State.

CRITICAL SKILLS/EXPERTISE/EXPERIENCE

Professional experience creating materials for the communications industry in contemporary and emerging media on a regional or national level. Possession of, or willingness to obtain and maintain, industry-related certifications (e.g. AVID certification). Professional experience in problem-solving and creating in post-production environments, including capturing and transferring video footage. Understanding of video compression, finishing, and delivery formats. The ability to research and design new technologies and production workflows for professional and classroom scenarios. Expertise sufficient to teach multiple-level classes in Video Production Technology, both in-person and online. Familiarity with professional standards, processes, equipment, techniques, ethics, and business practices in the video industry. Capability (or willingness to train) to deliver courses online as appropriate. JOB LOCATION

Hardin Valley campus, with travel to other campuses or dual enrollment sites, as needed by the college. Job location may change to another PSCC campus.
