Supplemental Instructor:

The English department is seeking part-time Supplemental Instructors to assist and support students with essay writing. Supplemental Instructors (S.I.s) will be scheduled to work between 10-20 hours per week, at a pay rate of $15.25/hr.

Job Description:

Supplemental Instructors (SIs) provide academic support to students in the Writing Lab by assisting with writing assignments across disciplines. SIs work with students at all stages of the writing process, including brainstorming, drafting, revising, and editing, with the goal of helping students develop stronger writing skills and greater independence. SIs are expected to maintain scheduled tutoring hours in the Writing Lab, where they will support both walk-in students and scheduled one-on-one appointments. This includes providing individualized feedback, guiding students through writing challenges, and helping them understand assignment expectations. Candidates should demonstrate strong time-management and organizational skills, as well as the ability to work effectively with students with varying levels of writing experience, including multilingual writers. SIs are expected to communicate clearly, foster a supportive learning environment, and encourage active student engagement in the writing process. In addition to direct student support, SIs are expected to model effective writing and study habits, maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions as required, and collaborate with faculty and Writing Lab staff as needed. All SIs must follow institutional policies and procedures as outlined in the Student Handbook and the SI Handbook, as well as any relevant course materials.

Qualifications:

Candidates must have a GPA of 3.0 or above, with at least two semesters of college experience. Candidates must have completed

ENGL 1301, ENGL

1302 or equivalent course with a grade of B or higher. Special Requirements Subject to a criminal background check prior to employment.
