Miles Jewish Day School is seeking a Humanities Teacher to join our Upper School faculty (grades 4-8). This educator will play a key role in cultivating students' curiosity, critical thinking, and love of learning through an integrated approach to English Language Arts and Social Studies. At N.E. Miles, we believe in educating the whole child within a warm, values-driven community. Our classrooms are student-centered, intellectually engaging, and grounded in strong relationships. Position Overview The Humanities Teacher will design and deliver engaging, rigorous instruction in reading, writing, and social studies. The ideal candidate is passionate about helping students make connections across disciplines, think deeply, and express themselves clearly and confidently. Key Responsibilities Plan and deliver high-quality instruction in ELA and Social Studies aligned to grade-level standards Foster strong reading comprehension, writing skills, and critical thinking Design meaningful learning experiences, including discussion, project-based learning, and analysis of texts and historical topics Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners Create a classroom environment that is structured, supportive, and engaging Assess student progress and provide clear, timely feedback Collaborate with colleagues to ensure alignment and continuity across grade levels Communicate effectively with families and contribute to the life of the school community Qualifications Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred Teaching experience in upper elementary or middle school (grades 4-8) Strong background in literacy instruction and/or social studies Ability to engage students through discussion, writing, and inquiry-based learning Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive classroom culture Strong organizational and communication skill
