Job Description

Instructor of English Job Summary The Department of English seeks to hire a full-time, non-tenure track Instructor of English with a start date of August 3, 2026. The instructor will teach a 4/4 load of composition, speech, and/or literature surveys, as well as other courses needed by the department, according to department practice and policy, and will engage in appropriate service. Evidence of excellent teaching is required. Salary contingent upon qualifications, experience, and needs of the university. Preference may be given to applicants with experience teaching composition, especially developmental writing, speech, and literature surveys in a university setting, as well as the demonstrated ability or expertise to teach other General Education and upper-level undergraduate courses that meet the needs of the department. Preference may also be given to applicants with the availability to teach in person on the JSU campus, located in Jacksonville, Alabama, Monday-Thursday between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Fridays 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Required Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in a field appropriate to the discipline with at least 18 hours completed in graduate-level English courses. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in English. Experience with in-person, hybrid, and online English instruction. Experience with Canvas or another learning management system. Experience mentoring students. Experience with and commitment to working with diverse student populations.
