Job Description

Description St. Raymond School is seeking a dedicated, faith-filled, and mission-driven 5th & 6th Grade English Language Arts Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. At St. Raymond School, our mission is to form learners who seek the Truth, excel in all ways, and serve others as Christ did. We are looking for an educator who is passionate about literature, writing, and grammar, and who is committed to fostering academic excellence while nurturing the spiritual and moral growth of every student. The ideal candidate will create an engaging classroom environment that develops strong readers, thoughtful writers, and confident communicators. Candidates with experience or training in classical education, Socratic discussion, and writing instruction rooted in the liberal arts tradition, are strongly encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities:
Teach 5th and 6th Grade English Language Arts Plan and deliver engaging lessons in literature, grammar, writing, vocabulary, and language conventions Foster critical thinking through discussion, close reading, and analytical writing Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students Collaborate with colleagues to support student growth and maintain a positive, faith-filled school culture Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress Qualified candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, and 3 references to resume@straymondschool-downey.org . Requirements Bachelor's degree in English, Liberal Arts, Education, or a related field Minimum of two (2) years of English Language Arts teaching experience Master's degree preferred Experience with or knowledge of classical education is highly desirable Wage Range The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
