TEACHER-Lee Middle 2026/2027 190 Day Calendar (ENGLISH/LANGUAGE ARTS)JOB DESCRIPTION
Provide leadership to effectively plan, coordinate, and implement programs of instruction that ensure students have opportunities to reach their highest social, emotional, and academic potential. Meet and instruct assigned classes in the location and at the time designated. Select and present materials required in the teaching assignment within the framework of the content limitations of state and system curriculum guides, resources, and available literacy training. In collaboration with school administration and English/Language Arts teachers, and content specialists, plan a literacy program of study based on the Science of Reading that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students. Assess student needs for reading support utilizing additional screening methods in addition to school-wide universal screener and prior state assessments. Provide direct instruction to students, individually or in small groups, enabling students to develop necessary reading skills, including phonics and phonemic awareness, sound/symbol relationships, decoding, encoding, word morphology and vocabulary development, fluency, and comprehension. Develop and implement classroom technology which may relate to the use of audio, video, graphics, research technologies, and other tools to facilitate learning. Prepare for classes assigned and show evidence of preparation upon request of the principal or designee. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Provide adequate background information and materials when a substitute teacher is to assume responsibilities. Maintain satisfactory attendance defined by the system or local school handbook. Comply with conditions stated in the contract of employment. Comply with the federal, state, and local board of education requirements for the development of educationally appropriate instruction. Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct and work cooperatively with all staff members in attaining school goals and objectives. Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures and maintain order in the classroom fairly and justly. Attend staff, department, team, or grade-level meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Participate as required in the appropriate state annual evaluation process. Perform such additional responsibilities as may be assigned by the building administrators.REQUIRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION OR TRAINING
Minimum bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and state-required certification.RECOMMENDED EXPERIENCE
Training or interest in Orton-Gillingham approach, Heggerty Phonemic Awareness, dyslexia screening, a reading endorsement, and/or other Science of Reading, research-based literacy teaching experience or competencies.REQUIRED SKILLS
Ability to organize, coordinate, plan, and direct the implementation of a comprehensive classroom instructional program. Proficiency required in oral and written communication, interpersonal relations, and competency in counseling and evaluating student needs.REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
Successful teacher training and/or teaching experiences at the level to which assigned.
