Job Description

Banning Lewis Prep Academy, serving grades 6-12, is one of two campuses (Banning Lewis Ranch Academy—K-5 is the other) is a tuition-free public charter school authorized by District 49, proudly serving the Banning Lewis Ranch community and surrounding neighborhoods in northeastern Colorado Springs. Our mission is to create a safe, supportive environment where students thrive academically and develop skills, character, and mindset to effectively engage with the world. Position Overview The Middle School English Language Arts Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, standards-aligned instruction that builds foundational literacy skills, including reading comprehension, writing, speaking, and critical thinking. This position fosters a structured and supportive classroom environment that promotes student growth, confidence, and independence while aligning with PBIS, CKH, and restorative practices. Key Responsibilities Instruction & Lesson Design Develop and deliver engaging lessons aligned to middle school ELA standards Emphasize reading comprehension, vocabulary development, writing skills, and discussion Use a variety of texts, including fiction, nonfiction, and informational materials appropriate for adolescent learners Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic and developmental needs of students Assessment & Feedback Design and administer formative and summative assessments Provide timely, specific feedback to support student growth in reading and writing Use assessment data to inform instruction and support intervention and enrichment Classroom Culture & Management Establish clear expectations, routines, and procedures Create a positive, structured, and engaging learning environment Reinforce PBIS expectations consistently CKH & Relationship Building Build strong, positive relationships with students to foster engagement and trust Support student confidence and identity development as readers and writers
Restorative Practices:
Address behavior through reflective and restorative approaches. Collaboration Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to plan instruction and analyze data Collaborate with colleagues to improve student outcomes
Operational Support:
Support school events, supervision duties, and testing as needed. Commitment to School Climate and Culture The Middle School ELA Teacher promotes a culture where all students can develop strong literacy skills through high expectations, engaging instruction, and supportive relationships during critical developmental years. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in English, Literature, or a related field in education Ability to obtain a valid Colorado teaching license Preferred Qualifications Experience teaching middle school English Language Arts Knowledge of middle school ELA standards and curriculum (reading, writing, grammar, and foundational literacy skills) Skills & Competencies Strong content knowledge in reading, writing, speaking, and language Instructional design and differentiation Classroom management Data analysis and responsiveness Understanding of adolescent development Work Environment & Physical Demands Classroom-based with regular standing, movement, and parent and student interaction. Salary Range:
$51,000 - $65,000
