Job Description

Mercy Learning Center is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Part-Time ESL Instructor to join our Adult Education team. This position provides high-quality English language instruction to adult learners in a supportive and inclusive learning environment. The successful candidate will help students build English language proficiency while strengthening literacy, digital literacy, workforce readiness, and life skills that promote personal, educational, and career success. The ideal candidate is passionate about adult education, committed to student achievement, and enjoys working with learners from diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds. Schedule Part-Time (School-Year Position) Monday through Thursday 2:30 PM - 4:30 PM September through May Fully In-Person - Bridgeport, CT Responsibilities Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging, standards-based ESL instruction aligned with Adult Education curriculum standards. Create a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment that promotes student engagement, confidence, and persistence. Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse educational, language, cultural, and learning needs of adult learners. Assess student learning and adjust instructional strategies to support English language acquisition and student achievement. Maintain accurate attendance records, student progress reports, and required classroom documentation. Integrate instructional technology and educational resources to enhance student learning. Collaborate with program staff to support student success and connect learners with appropriate resources when needed. Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and organizational initiatives. Demonstrate professionalism, collaboration, flexibility, and a commitment to Mercy Learning Center's mission and values. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree. Valid Connecticut Teaching Certification with ESL Cross Endorsement (#111 or #088), or eligibility to obtain the required certification. Minimum of two (2) years of classroom teaching experience. Strong knowledge of adult learning principles, English language acquisition, differentiated instructional practices, and evidence-based teaching strategies. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Google Classroom, and classroom technology. Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to build positive relationships with adult learners from diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds. Preferred Experience teaching English language learners. Experience teaching in an Adult Education program. Experience using student assessment data to inform instruction. Bilingual or multilingual skills.
