An English or Language Arts Teacher teaches English in elementary to secondary schools. Focuses on English, writing, composition, literature, and critical analysis. In elementary school, language arts classes focus on basic reading, writing and linguistic / communication skills. In middle school, the English curriculum evolves and expands to include more complicated reading comprehension, such as fiction, poetry and essays. In teaching high school, the focus relies on developing analytical skills.
In person Position Overview The Academy of Central Florida is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic High School English Teacher to join our academic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in English, literature, writing and language arts, along with a passion for helping students improve their reading, writing, communication and critical-thinking skills. Face-to-face instruction takes place from 3:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday through Friday . Responsibilities Teach high school English courses, including English I, English II, English III, English IV, literature, grammar and composition. Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that align with the school curriculum and meet the individual needs of students. Teach students how to improve their reading comprehension, academic writing, grammar, vocabulary and communication skills. Assess student learning through assignments, essays, projects, presentations, quizzes and examinations. Provide timely, constructive feedback to help students improve academically. Maintain accurate student attendance, grades and academic-progress records. Collaborate with colleagues to develop and enhance the English and language arts curriculum. Create a positive, structured and engaging classroom environment. Participate in department meetings, school events and professional-development opportunities. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in English, education, literature, language arts or a related field. A master's degree is preferred. Florida teaching certification in English or eligibility for a temporary Florida teaching certificate. Strong knowledge of English language arts content and teaching methods. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong classroom-management and interpersonal skills. Experience teaching high school students is preferred. Ability to work effectively with students from diverse cultural and academic backgrounds.
