Job Description

The 8th Grade English teacher is responsible for creating a dynamic and engaging learning environment that fosters students' understanding of English and language art concepts. The ideal candidate will be passionate about educating young minds, possess strong classroom management skills, and be committed to helping students develop critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Instructional Planning and Delivery:
Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans aligned with Indiana Academic Standards for ELA. Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, including lectures, discussions, group activities, and technology-based tools. Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and critical thinking. Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of all learners. Incorporate current events and real-world examples into lessons to make learning relevant.
Assessment and Evaluation:
Develop and administer formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress. Analyze assessment data to inform instructional decisions and provide targeted support to students. Provide timely and constructive feedback to students on their work.
Classroom Management:
Establish and maintain clear expectations for student behavior. Use effective classroom management techniques to create a positive and productive learning environment. Respond to student questions and concerns in a timely and supportive manner.
Professional Development:
Stay current on educational trends and best practices in ELA instruction. Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills. Collaborate with colleagues to share ideas and resources.
Parent and Community Engagement:
Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about student progress and expectations. Build positive relationships with parents and the community. Participate in school-wide events and activities.
Qualifications:
Valid Indiana Teaching License with appropriate endorsements. Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field. Strong knowledge of Indiana Academic Standards for ELA. Excellent classroom management skills. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to use technology to enhance instruction. Passion for teaching and a commitment to student success.
Additional Considerations:
Experience teaching English at the middle school level is preferred. Knowledge of inquiry-based learning and project-based learning is beneficial. Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and support staff. Flexibility and adaptability to changing circumstances.
