Principal / Department Head Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Vocational High School English Teacher to join our faculty. The ideal candidate will deliver engaging instruction in English Language Arts while supporting students in developing both academic and professional skills. This role includes teaching Grade 10 and Grade 12 English classes and contributing to a newly developed Freshman Seminar course for Grade 9 students designed to help students transition successfully into a vocational-technical learning environment. The successful candidate will collaborate with faculty to integrate literacy and communication skills with vocational content, while helping students build critical thinking, collaboration, and communication skills needed for academic and career success. Key Responsibilities Curriculum Development
  • Design and implement an engaging English curriculum aligned with Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education (MA DESE) standards.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of a Freshman Seminar course focused on academic success, technology use, organization, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Integrate cross-curricular learning opportunities that connect English language arts with vocational programs. Instruction
  • Deliver high-quality instruction in reading, writing, literature, and communication skills.
  • Teach Grade 10 and Grade 12 English Language Arts classes along with the Freshman Seminar course.
  • Utilize varied teaching strategies and educational technologies to engage diverse learners. Assessment
  • Develop and administer assessments to evaluate student progress and mastery of course objectives.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to support student growth. Classroom Management
  • Establish a positive, inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect, responsibility, and collaboration.
  • Maintain high expectations for student behavior, engagement, and academic achievement. Collaboration
  • Work closely with vocational instructors to integrate literacy and communication skills into technical programs.
  • Participate in department meetings, school initiatives, and collaborative curriculum planning. Professional Development
  • Maintain current knowledge of subject matter, teaching strategies, and state standards.
  • Participate in ongoing professional learning opportunities and school-based professional development. Parent and Community Engagement
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress.
  • Support partnerships with community organizations that enhance student learning and career awareness. Advisory and Student Support
  • Serve as a mentor or advisor to students, supporting academic success and career planning.
  • Promote the development of interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills.
