Aug 26, 2026 Job Description Full Time English Teacher Notre Dame Academy- Hingham, an all-female college prep high school educating young women in grades 6-12, is seeking a full-time English Teacher with high energy, a creative spirit, and a passion for empowering young women. Notre Dame Academy is a vibrant, Catholic learning community, sponsored by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. The Academy guides young women in their personal faith formation, challenges students to pursue academic excellence, and encourages social responsibility on behalf of global justice. Under the supervision of the English Department Chairperson, the English Teacher creates, develops, and implements thoughtful and rigorous high school social studies curricula that builds students' critical thinking, problem solving, and logical reasoning skills and prepares them for an ever changing and diverse world. Students are educated and empowered in an academically challenging learning community that fosters a life-long love of learning, critical thinking, and open-mindedness in accordance with the mission of the School and the mission of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur.Components of Responsibility:
Pedagogy and Assessment- Create a classroom environment that develops each student's awareness and appreciation of literature.
- Prepare and deliver lectures to students on topics outlined in the school curriculum.
- Evaluate and grade students' class work, performance, assignments, and papers.
- Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
- Prepare course materials such as assessments, homework assignments, and supplemental handouts.
- Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions.
- Collaborate with colleagues to address teaching and research issues.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across divisions and departments
- Remain knowledgeable of instructional and curriculum trends, goals, and objectives Actively support community based on cultural competence, diverse perspectives, and respect for all voices
- Perform other duties, as assigned
Classroom Management:
- Create and maintain an organized, functional, and safe learning environment.
- Create and uphold rules and procedures that optimize learning.
Administrative:
- Attend English Department Meetings.
- Support and participate in English Department events and initiatives.
- Pursue professional development training.
- Keep accurate records.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Education/English, Master's degree preferred
- The ideal candidate has at least three years of full-time teaching experience
- Ability to communicate effectively (orally and in writing) and possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and parents
- Ability to plan, organize, develop, and conduct comprehensive lesson plans and instruction that fully engage students
- Demonstrated knowledge in current teaching principles, theories, methods, behavior management techniques, and conflict resolution strategies
- Understanding of academic, social, and behavioral characteristics of middle and high school students
- Ability to create and contribute to an engaging and inclusive learning environment and workplace
- History of continued education or professional development Ability to be flexible, effectively manage stress, and adapt to changing work priorities and assignments
